８３６回目の例会は、波止場会館で行われました。
司会はTM.Tで、テーマはライブ音楽、パフォーマンスでした。
丁度前日にTM.TがMisiaさんのライブに行った為このテーマを選ばれたそうです。
このテーマの回答はバラエティに富む楽しいものばかりでした。
・吹奏楽部に所属していた時Crystal kayさんと「共演」した
・ニューヨークで働いていた時ブロードウェイで美女と野獣を観た
・朝ドラで使われていた音楽でAIさんを知りコンサートに行った
などです。

The 836th meeting was held at Hatoba Kaikan.
The host was TM.T, and the theme was live music and performances.
She chose this topic because she had just attended a Misia concert the day before.
The responses to this theme were all fun and diverse.

-One person performed together with Crystal Kay when they were in a school brass band.

-Another watched Beauty and the Beast on Broadway while working in New York.

-Someone discovered AI (the singer) through a song used in a morning drama and later went to her concert.

それでは、当日の流れを記載します。
Now, I will write about what happened at the meeting.

当日は韓国釜山のトーストマスター所属のゲスト、新規ゲスト、そして今回で3回目になるゲストがおり、彼女は入会を表明されました！

On the day of the meeting, we had a guest from the Toastmasters club in Busan, South Korea, a brand-new guest, and a returning guest who was attending for the third time — she announced her intention to join the club!

今回のWord of the day の担当はTM.Sです。彼はfascinatingという言葉を選びました。
今回のMeeting Themeともうまくリンクしており、素晴らしいチョイスです！

The Word of the Day was presented by TM S, who chose the word fascinating.
It was a great choice that nicely tied in with the meeting theme!

次に、各役割担当者による説明があり、
TTM(テーブルトピックスマスター)によるテーブルトピックスセッションがはじまりました。ここでは、TTMが投げかけた質問に指名されたスピーカーが即興で答えます。
今回のTTMは入ったばかりのTM Tで、初めてのTTMですが、準備万端、リラックスして臨み、参加者全員ドキドキしながらも楽しい時間を過ごしました。
質問は「もし貴方が有名な歌手だったら、休日をどのように過ごしますか？」等
Meeting Themeに沿ったものでした。

Next, each role taker gave a brief explanation of their duties, and then the Table Topics session led by the Table Topics Master (TTM) began.
In this session, the TTM asks questions, and the designated speakers respond with impromptu answers.

This time, the TTM was TM T, who had just recently joined the club.
It was his first time taking on this role, but he was well-prepared and approached it in a relaxed manner.
Everyone enjoyed the session, even though we were all a little nervous.
The question was something like, “If you were a famous singer, how would you spend your days off?” It was related to the meeting theme.

続いて準備スピーチです。今回は4名がスピーチを披露してくれました。

1番目はTM.Sで「人生の転機」
結婚は今も昔も人生の大きな転機の一つ。自分を好きな（筈）の男性を追ってニューヨークへ！でも彼の返事はつれなくて、、、。続きは次回、stay tune!
旦那様との馴れ初めのお話なので結果は判っているのですが、TM.Sの高度な話術と
惹き付ける魅力で続きが待ち遠しい！

2番目はTM.Aで「この一年を振り返って」
今期のPresidentであるTM.Aがこの1年を総決算するスピーチをしました。
Experienced MembersとNew Members、MentorとMentee、SpeakerとEvaluator
それぞれ対比するキーワードを判りやすくボードに掲示し、メンバー全員がこの1年を振り返るきっかけを作ってくれただけでなく、Toastmasters clubの仕組みも判る素晴らしいスピーチでした。

3番目はTM.Tで「全てを楽しもう！」
歯医者で診察を受け抗えない老いを感じる日常。そして娘さんとの小笠原島旅行での美しい花々に囲まれた非日常。TM.Tの全てを包み込む優しい語り口で私達は日常と非日常のあわいをたゆとい、TM.Tが重ねる美しい言葉が層になり、そして私達はお酒に酔ったようにTM.Tのスピーチに酔いました。

4番目はTM.Uで「期待と現実のはざまで」
「神は細部に宿る」TM.Uの仕事の座右の銘だった言葉です。しかしその言葉が足かせとなり、チームリーダーとしてチームを引っ張り仕事を仕上げねばならないのに仕事が終わらない。大きな挑戦を乗り越え彼の座右の銘は変わっていきます。
今回の彼のスピーチのコースは声の表現力とボディランゲージの学びでしたが、上司と彼のやり取りを表情や声、態度で変えて完璧に表現していました。

Next, we moved on to the Prepared Speeches section.
This time, four members delivered their speeches.

The first speaker was TM S, with the speech titled “Turning Point of My Life.”
Marriage has always been one of life’s biggest turning points, both in the past and today. TM S followed a man she thought loved her all the way to New York! But his response turned out to be unexpectedly cold…
To be continued — stay tuned!
Although we already know the happy outcome (after all, it’s the story of how she met her husband), TM S’s storytelling skills and captivating presence left us eager to hear more.

The second speaker was TM A, with “Reflecting on Our Year.”
TM A, this term’s President, delivered a recap speech to close out the year.
Using pairs of contrasting keywords — such as Experienced Members and New Members, Mentor and Mentee, Speaker and Evaluator — she clearly displayed each pair on the board, helping all members reflect on the past year.
Not only did she offer a meaningful reflection, but she also gave a wonderful overview of how our Toastmasters Club works.

The third speaker was TM T, with “Enjoy It All!”
In everyday life, TM T shared how visits to the dentist remind her of the inescapable reality of aging. Then, she contrasted this with an extraordinary experience — a beautiful trip to the Ogasawara Islands with her daughter, surrounded by vibrant flowers.
Her warm, enveloping storytelling carried us gently between the ordinary and the extraordinary. The poetic language layered throughout her speech left us all spellbound — as if tipsy from a fine drink, we were drunk on TM T’s words.

The fourth speaker was TM U, with “Between Expectations and Reality.”
“God is in the details” — this was once TM U’s motto at work.
But over time, that very principle became a burden. As a team leader, he had to guide the group and deliver results — yet he found himself unable to complete the task.
After overcoming a great challenge, his personal motto evolved.
This speech was part of the “Introduction to Vocal Variety and Body Language” Pathway, and TM U demonstrated both beautifully — switching tone, facial expressions, and gestures to recreate conversations with his boss. His delivery was spot-on.

次にそれぞれのスピーチに対してEvaluatorが評価を行いました。
司会のTM.TがEvaluationに関して素晴らしいコメントをしました。
「各Evaluatorの言葉はSpeakerだけのものではありません。参加している全員の勉強になるものです。」
General EvaluatorのTM.Mは次期Presidentです。今回通常より多いSpeakerでしたが、素晴らしい差配を行いました。

Each evaluator gave their evaluation for the respective speeches.
The Toastmaster of the meeting, TM T, made an excellent comment about the evaluations:
“The words of each evaluator are not just for the speaker; they are a learning opportunity for everyone present.”
TM M, the General Evaluator, will be the next President. Despite having more speakers than usual this time, she managed the session wonderfully.

司会はTM T.Sで、テーマは「梅雨をどう楽しみますか？」

薄曇りで雨もふっていたのでピッタリのテーマでした。

たくさんの回答がありました。例えば：

・映画を見る

しかし複数の人が「私は雨が好きです」と答えらえていたのが印象的でした。

There were questions from various angles, such as your favorite rice dish, your favorite brand of rice, a good slogan for rice, do you miss rice when you go abroad, and what is your soul food?

【スピーチ】

今回は4名がスピーチを披露してくれました。

1人目はTM A.T。負けず嫌いな自分が幼年時代に味わった友人との確執。大学時代に成績が一番になって意識が変わったこと、「負けず嫌い」な自分との付き合い方、娘に受け継がれている性質などを、ベテランらしく説得力をもって話しされました。

2人目は新入会員のTM T.T。自己紹介を兼ねたアイスブレークスピーチです。幼い事のトラウマである人前で何も言えなかった経験、それを娘のお受験で再現してしまったことを語られました。大きなジェスチャーと声の抑揚をつけた熱弁でした。

３人目はＴＭ N.M　学校で仲間外れにされた経験、ママ友に仲間外れにされた経験などを自分自身の客観的分析とともに話されました。そして自分は無理に周りに合わせる必要がないという境地にいたる話、感動的でした。

４人目はTM R.S.  昨年にヨーロッパを一人旅した話をされました。ひとりの旅は、他人との集合場所や待ち合わせ時間を気にする必要はなく、自分が決めればよいだけなのだ、と分かったという話から、それを人生観に発展させていました。

今回の４人のスピーカー、どの話も素晴らしく内容が深く、感動しました。トーストマスターに入っている醍醐味を感じました。

[Speeches]

This time, four people gave speeches.

The first was TM A.T. He spoke with the persuasiveness of a veteran about his competitive nature, the conflict he experienced with a friend in his childhood, how his attitude changed when he became the top student in his class in college, how he now deals with his competitive nature, and how this trait has been passed on to his daughter.

The second was new member TM T.T. It was an icebreaker speech that also served as a self-introduction. He spoke about his childhood trauma of being unable to speak in front of others, and unfortunately, he repeated this experience when his daughter was taking entrance exams. He gave an impassioned speech with large gestures and inflections in his voice.

The third speaker was TM N.M. She spoke about her experiences of being excluded by his classmates at school and by his mother’s friends, along with his own objective analysis. It was very moving to hear how she concluded that she did not need to change to fit in with those around her.

The fourth speaker, TM R.S., shared her experience of traveling alone in Europe last year. She explained that traveling alone meant she didn’t have to worry about meeting others at designated locations or waiting for others, and that she could simply make her own decisions. She then expanded this insight into a broader perspective on life.

All four speakers delivered outstanding presentations with profound content, leaving a lasting impression. This experience truly highlighted the essence of being part of Toastmasters.

第834回の例会は、桜木町駅前にあるぴおシティで行われました。

天候はあいにくの雨でしたが、3名のゲスト(内、1名はオンライン)を含め、会場は満席！！今回も活気にあふれた例会になりました。

The 834th regular meeting was held at Pio City in front of Sakuragicho Station. The weather was rainy, but the venue was full, including three guests (one of whom joined online)! This meeting was also full of energy.

例会の冒頭、会長のTM H.Aから先週末に開催されたToastmasters International District 76 Annual Conference 2025について、その日本語スピーチコンテストの委員長をTM K.Oが担当したことを紹介しました。TM K.O、コンテスト委員長としてのご活躍お疲れ様でした。

At the beginning of the meeting, President TM H.A. introduced Toastmasters International District 76 Annual Conference 2025 that was held last weekend, and that TM K.O. was the chair of the Japanese speech contest committee for the conference. TM K.O., thank you very much for your work as the contest chair.

「今日の単語」は”inevitable”「避けられない」という意味の形容詞です。

TM T.Tからは「どんなに気をつけてスパゲッティを食べても、シャツにソースがつくのは避けられない」といった具体的で覚えやすい例で説明しました。

Today’s Word of the Day was “inevitable,” an adjective meaning “unavoidable.” TM T.T. explained it with a concrete and memorable example: “No matter how carefully you eat spaghetti, it’s inevitable that you’ll get sauce on your shirt.”

総合司会はTM H.Oで、会議のテーマは「あなたの最期の言葉」。このテーマは、TM H.Oが戦国時代の武将にゆかりのある地を訪れた思い出からインスピレーションを受けて設定したテーマとのことでした。

最期の言葉については「私は人生のすべてに感謝します」、「私は人生を楽しんだ」、「私の人生に後悔なし」、「いつも子供達に”あなたは大丈夫？”と聞いているので、最期の言葉でもそう言うと思う」など様々な回答がありました。

The Toastmaster of the Day was TM H.O., and the meeting’s theme was “Your dying words” This theme was inspired by TM H.O.’s memories of visiting historical sites related to the warring states period warlords. There were various responses to the question of dying words, including: “I am grateful for everything in my life,” “I enjoyed my life,” “No regrets in my life,” and “I always ask my children, ‘Are you okay?’, so I think I’d say that even as my dying words.”

続いて各役割担当者による説明があり、テーブルトピックスセッションがはじまりました。

今回のテーブルトピックスマスターはTM T.Oで、会議のテーマにかけて人生に関連した質問でテーブルトピックセッションを進行しました。

質問は以下のとおりです。

1.あなたの人生に必要不可欠なものは何ですか？

2.人生最後の食事に何を食べたいですか？

3.１つだけ記憶に残せるなら、どんな記憶を持っていきますか？

4.いつあなたは最も幸せと感じますか？

5.あなたのことをどのような人と覚えて欲しいですか？

6.あなたの葬式はどのような雰囲気で催されたいですか？

Following the explanation of each role, Table Topics session began. TM T.O. was the Table Topics Master, and she led the session with life-related questions, tying into the meeting’s theme. The questions were:

1.What is the life essential that you cannot live?

2.what do you want your last supper to be?

3.If you could take just one memory to heaven, which memory would it be?

4.When do you feel happiest or most fulfilled?

5.What kind of a person do you want to be remembered us?

6.What kind of atmosphere do you want your own funeral?

[準備スピーチセッション/Prepared Speeches Session]

次は準備スピーチセッションでした。今回は3名の経験豊富なメンバーがスピーチを行いました。

最初のスピーチはTM H.Sによる「Gratitude note(感謝ノート)」。TM H.Sは毎日5つの事柄に感謝することを目標として、日々の小さな感謝を手帳に書いているとのこと。このことで日々の生活の中で感謝し、幸せを感じることが多くなったとの心温まるスピーチでした。

２人目のスピーチは、TM K.Oによる「TBA(トーストマスターズが私を再び作り上げた)」。TM K.Oがこの6年間でリーダーとして取り組んだトーストマスターズクラブでの活動やそこから学んだことを紹介いただきました。TM K.Oは、これまで横浜トーストマスターズクラブの会長やディビジョンのディレクター、Toastmasters International District 76 Annual Conferenceのパーティ委員長を歴任するだけでなく、新しいトーストマスターズクラブ(ロックミュージックトーストマスターズクラブ)を設立したりするなど精力的に取り組んだ活動を紹介しました。

３人目のスピーチは、TM R.K による「キャリアアップのためのソーシャルメディア」。複数あるスピーチプロジェクトから今回のものを選んだ理由と共に、TM R.KのSNSの活用状況をフォロワー数で示しながら、SNSが転職に繋がった話を紹介していただきました。

Following the Table Topics Session, we moved on to the Prepared Speeches session. Three experienced members delivered speeches this time.

The first speech was “Gratitude Note” by TM H.S. TM H.S. shared his goal of being grateful for five things every day and writing down small daily gratitude in his notebook. It was a heartwarming speech about how this practice has led to more gratitude and happiness in his daily life.

The second speaker, TM K.O., gave a speech titled “TBA (Toastmasters Built Me Again)” in which he introduced his leadership activities in Toastmasters clubs over the past six years and what he learned from them. TM K.O. has not only served as president of the Yokohama Toastmasters Club, director of the Division, and party chair of the Toastmasters International District 76 Annual Conference, but also established a new Toastmasters Club(Rock Music Toastmasters Club).

The third speech was “Social Media for Career Growth” by TM R.K. He explained why he chose this speech project out of several options, and used his own follower count as an example of how he utilized social media and how social media led to his career change.

[批評セッション/Evaluation Session]

準備スピーチセッションの次は評価セッションでした。３人の評価者が準備スピーチの評価を行いました。

最初の評価者、TM T.Sは、ロジカルでスムースなスピーチで説得力があったとスピーチ全体を講評すると共に、結婚生活についての優しい指摘があるなどユニークな評価を行いました。

２人目の評価者、TM A.Jは、ご自身の感情やご自身の経験を正直に話されたことは勇気がある行為であったこと、また聴衆がとても共感しやすくなったと評しました。加えて準備の大切さを伝えました。

３人目の評価者、TM H.Aは、スピーカーが過去に広報担当としてSNSで素晴らしい活動をしていたことを聴衆に説明するとともに、スピーチプロジェクトをどのような視点で選んだり、選ばなかったりしているのかを知る機会が少ないため、今回のスピーチはゲストにとっても参考になったのではないかと評しました。

最後に総合評価者、TM H.Aが全体の総評を行い、例会中に見られた良い発言や行動について丁寧なフィードバックをしました。

After the Prepared Speeches session, it was time for the Evaluation Session. Three evaluators evaluated the prepared speeches.

The first evaluator, TM T.S., gave a unique critique of the speech as a whole, commenting that it was logical, smooth, and persuasive, as well as making some gentle remarks about married life.

The second evaluator, TM A.J., commented that it was an act of courage for you to speak honestly about your feelings and your own experiences, and that it made it very easy for the audience to relate to you. In addition, he emphasized the importance of preparation.

The third evaluator, TM H.A., explained to the audience that the speaker had done great work on social networking sites in the past as VPPR of YTMC and that his speech was helpful for the guests as they rarely have the opportunity to know how they choose or do not choose their speech projects.

Finally, the General Evaluator, TM H.A., gave a general review of the entire meeting and gave careful feedback on the good remarks and actions observed during the meeting.

[新役員選挙/the New Officers’ Election]

本日は例会の最後に新役員選挙がありました。ここで選出された方々が役員として2025年7月から1年間の横浜トーストマスターズクラブの運営を担当します。TM N.Mを会長とする7月からの運営体制が決まりました。

At the end of today’s meeting, there was the new officers’ election. Those elected here will be in charge of Yokohama Toastmasters Club operations for one year starting in July 2025, with TM N.M. as President.

それでは、当日の流れを記載します。
Now, I will write about what happened at the meeting.

プレジデントが開会を宣言されて、
最初に加盟式が行われました。
TM T.Tについての紹介があったり、TM T.Tと他会員の双方の宣誓などがありました。
会員は皆新会員を喜んでいました。

The president announced the opening of the meeting, and first the induction ceremony was held. There was introduction of TM T.T, and both TM T.T and other members took a pledge. All members were happy to welcome the new member.

TM T.Aによる今回のWord of the dayは“active”（活発な、積極的な、など）でした。意味の説明で分かりやすいと感じたのが、「目標を達成するためにたくさんの実用的なことをしていること」という説明です。また、例として大谷翔平さんをだされていたところが楽しかったです。(Shohei Ohtani is very active in major league baseball games.)

The word of the day chosen by TM T.A was “active.” A part of the explanation by TM T.A that I thought was very clear was “doing lots of practical things to achieve your aims.” It was also amusing how he mentioned Shohei Ohtani as an example (Shohei Ohtani is very active in major league baseball games).

次に、各役割担当者による説明があり、
TTM(テーブルトピックスマスター)によるテーブルトピックスセッションがはじまりました。ここでは、TTMが投げかけた質問に指名されたスピーカーが即興で答えます。
今回のTTMはTM Aで、春に関わる質問で司会進行してくださいました。
TM Aの人柄を反映したような優しく楽しいテーブルトピックスセッションでした。
質問は以下のとおりです。
①あなたが春にしたいことは何ですか？
②春に一番食べたい食べものは何ですか？
③春にサウンドトラックがついたとしたら、どんな音楽になりますか？
④ピクニックをどこでもできるとしたら、どこでしたいですか？
⑤ゴールデンウィークのご予定は？

Next, there were role explanations by role takers, and then the table topics session led by the TTM(table topics master). In this session, the TTM asks questions and the appointed speaker answers those questions on the spot. In this meeting, the TTM was TM A, and she facilitated this session with questions related to spring. It was a gentle and fun table topics session, reflecting TM A’s personalities.
The questions were as follows:
1. What would you like to do in spring?
2. What is the best thing to eat in spring?
3. If spring had a sound track, what kind of music would it be?
4. If you could have a picnic anywhere, where would you like to go?
5. What is your plan for Golden Week?

次のセッションは準備スピーチセッションでした。
今回の準備スピーチは、経験豊富な、かなりハイレベルなメンバーによるものでした。

The next session was the prepared speech session. This time, the prepared speeches were by experienced, high-level members.

最初のスピーチはTM O.Hによる「親切の代償」。とてもユーモラスなスピーチでした。飛行機に乗る際は通路側の席に座ることにこだわりを持つスピーカーが、5年前、バンコク行きの便で、新婚カップルに「一緒に座りたいので席を代わって」と頼まれ、了承すると、代わった席が真ん中の席で大変な思いをする。「もう二度と席を譲るものか」と決心したものの、5年後、ヨーロッパ行きの便で「離れ離れの姉妹のために席を代わってあげてくれ」とお願いされて…?というストーリー。メンバーが声をあげて笑っていただけでなく、スピーチのポジティブなメッセージも魅力的でした。

The first speech was “The price of being nice” by TM O.H. It was a very humorous speech. The story begins five years ago – the speaker, who is very passionate about taking the aisle seat when taking planes, is asked by a couple on a honeymoon to swap seats because they want to sit together. The speaker agrees to this, but the new seat was a middle seat and he goes through an awful time. This leads the speaker to decide firmly that he will never swap seats again – but five years later, on a plane to Europe, he is asked to swap seats for sisters who are sitting separately. What will he do…? All members were laughing out loud, and the speech had a positive message too – making the speech attractive.

二人目のスピーチは、TM Kによる「保ち続けろ（Keep）」。ご自身が英語を勉強し続けたことで、海外赴任に繋がったり、アメリカ、ドイツで好きな長旅が出来たり、トーストマスターズを始めて日々が充実したり。ご自身の人生が生き生きしていく様子を例として、何かを続ける重要性を伝えてくださいました。途中でまだ英語が得意ではなかったころに学校の先生に言われたことをユーモアを交えて語っていらっしゃったりしながら、スピーチが綺麗にメッセージに繋がっていく様子が素敵でした。

The second speech was “Keep” by TM K. He explained the importance of keeping on doing things, through the example of how he became full of life through continuing to study English; for example, working abroad, going on a road trip in USA and Germany, and enjoying toastmasters. During the speech, he also included anecdotes of him receiving words from his school teacher when he still was not good at English with humour – every story connected to the message of this speech, which was beautiful.

三人目のスピーチは、TM T.K による「娘の夏休みの宿題、由布島と水牛」。自由研究の課題をやりたくない娘さんと、気持ちはわかりつつもやらせたいお母さま（スピーカー）のバトルでスピーチが開幕します。ここの台詞シーンは圧巻でした。パソコンで宿題ができたら簡単なのかもしれないけれど、紙にまとめて提出しなくてはいけないので時間がかかる。何枚も下書きをして、試行錯誤しながら、親子で一緒に宿題を作り上げていく様子を、実際の宿題をみせながら鮮やかに説明してくださいました。

The third speech was TM T.K’s “My daughter’s Summer Homework, Yubujima and Water Buffalo, Part 2!” The speech opened with the battle of the speaker’s daughter who does not want to do the free research project homework, and the mother(speaker) who understands her feelings but wants to make her do the homework. It might have been easy if they could use the PC, but the homework had to be submitted in the form of hand-written paper, so it takes a lot of time. TM T.K explained the process of doing the homework together with her daughter, after many drafts and experimentation, showing the actual product.

四人目、ラストのスピーチは、TM Aによる「会議責任者（Chief Registration Desk）」。リーダーシップをとるときに重要なことを、ご自身が責任者として参加者が2万人規模であるものを含む会議の運営をされていた際のご経験を交えながら伝えてくださいました。会議では、２、30名の派遣スタッフにオリエンテーションを行い、指示を出さなければいけないそうです。TM Aがリーダーとして心がけていることは、まずフォロワーをつくることだそうで、これはリーダーシップの書籍でも勧められていることだそうです。

The fourth and the last speech was “Chief Registration Desk” by TM A. She conveyed to us what is important when taking leadership, with the example of her experience when she had to organize conferences which sometimes had ca. 20.000 visitors as the person in charge. To prepare for these conferences, she had to do orientations and give instructions to 2 or 30 dispatched staff. TM A, when taking leadership, keeps in mind to make followers – this is an approach also recommended in leadership literature.

最後のセッションは評価セッションでした。四人のメンバーが、それぞれ４つの準備スピーチの評価を行いました。最初の評価者、TM Mは、「日本の侍みたいに座っていた」というスピーチのフレーズをあげながらユーモアを褒めるなどし、スピーカーのモチベーションを向上するような評価をしていました。二人目の評価者、TM S.Nは、スピーカーとお互い敬意を持っているのが伝わるような評価を行い、ユーモアも交えて指摘も楽しく講評していました。三人目の評価者、TM Uは、慎重に言葉を選んでいる印象で、丁寧で楽しい評価を行い、最後ポジティブに終わっていました。最後の評価者、TM Iは、自分のご経験も交えながらの興味深い評価を行い、「yes, yes, yes!」など、スピーカーに支持がよく伝わる明るい評価を行っていました。最後に総合評価者（general evaluator）、TM Nが全体の総評を行い、最初から最後までとても丁寧なフィードバックを行っていました。

The last session was the evaluation session. Four members evaluated each of the four prepared speeches. The first evaluator, TM M complemented the speaker, with the example of the phrase “sitting like a Japanese Samurai”, and made an evaluation which is motivating. The second evaluator, TM S.N’s evaluation gave an impression that the speaker and the evaluator respect eachother – when he pointed out an improvement point, he did so with humour, making the evaluation exciting. The third evaluator, TM U gave an impression that he was choosing words carefully – he made an respectful and fun evaluation, and ended his evaluation positively. The last evaluator, TM I made an interesting evaluation, also giving the example of his own experience, and he gave cheerful and supportive comments like “yes, yes, yes!” Lastly, the general evaluator, TM N, made a general evaluation, providing thorough feedback for what happened from the beginning to the end.

【Word of the day】

Today’s Word of the Day is “gradually”.

Many of you may have started to take on new challenges at the start of a new fiscal year. Are there things you have gradually become able to do? This is the perfect word for such a time!

「今日の単語」は”gradually”「徐々に、次第に」という意味のことばです。

新年度がスタートして新しいことに挑戦しはじめた人も少なくないのでは？少しずつできるようになってきたことはありますか？そんな時にぴったりな単語ですね！

TMOD chose “change” as the theme.

The new fiscal year began this month. Each of us presented about the changes we are experiencing.

今月から始まった新年度。各々が経験する変化について発表しました。

The questions were about the new fiscal year, spring, etc.

They included “advice for a friend starting a new job,” “memories and impressions of the initiation ceremony,” and “recommended cherry blossom spots.”

Guest Mr. T shared a very interesting memory about the cherry blossoms at the place where he took his wedding photo.

ゲストのMr.T はウェディングフォトを撮った場所の桜について、とても面白い思い出話を披露してくれました。

【Prepared speech】

We had four prepared speakers today.

The first was TM I. He took on a project that lasted up to 15 minutes. In this project, the speaker had to control the audience who interfered with the speech (chatter, questions or objections during the speech, etc.) and still complete the speech. He was able to successfully complete the speech by dealing with the audience members who were getting carried away with the interruptions.

【スピーチ】

今回は4名がスピーチを披露してくれました。

1人目はTM I。最長15分のプロジェクトに挑みました。このプロジェクトはスピーチを妨害する（雑談や途中での質問や反論など）聴衆を上手くコントロールしつつスピーチを完遂させなくてはいけません。妨害にノリノリになっているメンバーをうまく躱して見事スピーチをやり遂げることができました。

The second is TM S. This speech was the longest 20 minute project. The topic was how to organize an In-house contest in a Toastmasters club. After explaining the current method, the audience asked questions about possible problems, and TM S answered them with solutions. The way he answered the various questions was very good.

2人目はTM S。こちらは最長20分のプロジェクトです。テーマはトーストマスターズのクラブ内コンテストの取り仕切り方について。現行のやり方を説明したあと、想定されるトラブルなどを聴衆から質問の形でとりあげ、それについて解決方法を解答していくというプロジェクトでした。様々な質問に的確に答えていく様はさすがでした。

The third speaker was TM J. He presented a speech on a very deep topic: how to live.

What kind of mindset we should have in our daily life and how it affects the impression we make on others and how we live our lives. He also encouraged us to keep a daily diary. His message of “write a positive story that will lead to a colorful tomorrow” left a strong impression on me.

3人目はTM J。どう生きるか、というとても深いテーマでスピーチを披露してくれました。

どのようなマインドセットで日々を過ごしていくのか、それによって人に与える印象や自分自信の生き方にどのような影響を与えるのか。毎日日記をつけることも勧めてくれました。「彩り豊かな明日を迎えられるような前向きなストーリーを紡ぐ」というメッセージはとても強く心に残るものでした。

The last speaker was TM N. He gave a speech about his treasure.

His treasure is the autograph of his favorite artist. He told us the story of how he traveled to England to see a live performance and how he struggled to get the autograph with a humor that is typical of TM N. The power that comes from having a favorite artist is a powerful thing!

最後はTM N。宝物についてのスピーチを披露しました。

彼の宝物は彼が推しているアーティストのサイン。ライブを観るためにイギリスまで足を運んだ話やサインをもらうまでに悪戦苦闘した様子をTM Nらしいユーモアをもって聞かせてくれました。推しがいることで得られるパワーは強大ですね！

本日も会場は定番の波止場会館ですが、いつもの１階と違い、４階の広い部屋です。
視界が高くなったおかげで窓の外には大さん橋に停泊している飛鳥Ⅱとダイヤモンドプリンセス号がよく見えます。
天気はあまり良くありませんでしたが、現地に２１名、オンライン３名で、しかもゲスト５名参加の大盛況でした。
しかも「ゲスト」のうちの一人はミスターYTMCとの異名を持つ大ベテランで、来月から待望の復帰予定です。

Today’s venue is the standard Hatoba-Kaikan, but unlike the usual first floor, it is a spacious room on the fourth floor.
The Asuka II and Diamond Princess docked at Osanbashi Bridge can be seen from the window.
The weather was not so good, but it was a great success with 21 people on site, 3 online, and 5 guests.
Moreover, one of the guests is a veteran, known as Mr. YTMC, who will be making his long-awaited return next month.

テーブルトピックでは新進気鋭のTM Aが「トーストマスター最初の想い出は？」「トーストマスターでの好きな役割とそうでもない役割」・・・などなどトーストマスターに関する質問をみなさんにしました。

In the table topic, up-and-coming TM A asked, “What is your first Toastmaster memory?” “What is your favorite role in Toastmaster and what is your least favorite role in Toastmaster?” etc…

次は気合の準備スピーチです。本日は４名がスピーチに臨まれました。
TM Tは質問と回答セッションというパスウェイだったので、質問時間を含めて２０分のセッションをされました。お疲れ様です。
TM Aは新年からのビジネスに関するスピーチをされました。
TM Iは憧れのラーメン二郎について、熱い思いを話されました。次回は食リポを是非スピーチしてください。
TM Yは初スピーチということで自身に関する感動的なスピーチをされました。

3月最初の例会

この日は快晴で、春の訪れを感じさせる心地よい天気でした。

Toastmaster of the Day (TMOD)

今回のTMODは、ベテランのTM.Iさん。
事前準備が素晴らしく、スクリプトもしっかりと練り込まれており、非常に感銘を受けました。
TM.Iさんが選んだテーマは 「歴史上で一番好きな人物は？」 でした。

まず、TMODサポーターがそれぞれの好きな歴史上の人物を紹介。
好きなものを語るときは自然と熱が入るもの。若干時間が押し気味になるほど、盛り上がりました。

Word of the Day

この日の Word of the Day は「Bright」。
春を感じるこの日にぴったりの言葉で、ナイスチョイスでした！

Table Topics Session

今回の Table Topics Master は、TM.Tさん。
例会のテーマに沿って、「歴史」を題材にした6つの質問を用意してくださいました。

歴史上の人物に関する質問から、自分自身の歴史に関するものまで幅広い内容で、
回答者の想像力が試される、非常に良い質問ばかりでした。

アイスブレーカーとして、趣味や自己紹介から始まり、自身が切り開いてきたキャリアについて語ってくださいました。

今後のスピーチも非常に楽しみです！一緒にYTMCを盛り上げていきましょう！

2人目のスピーカー：TM.Kさん
「VISIONとGOAL」をテーマにしたスピーチを披露。

プロジェクトを遂行するにあたり、「VISIONなきプロジェクトは失敗しやすいが、VISIONを持つことで成功につながる」 というメッセージを、ご自身の体験や比喩を交えながら伝えてくださいました。

非常に説得力があり、感銘を受けるスピーチでした。

General Evaluatorは、例会全体を通じて評価を行う重要な役割。
初めてとは思えないほど細やかで的確なフィードバックをしてくださいました。

First Meeting of March

It was a bright, sunny day, making us feel the arrival of spring.

Toastmaster of the Day (TMOD)

This time, our TMOD was the experienced TM.I.
Their preparation was outstanding, with a well-structured script, leaving a strong impression on the audience.
The theme chosen by TM.I was “Who is your favorite historical figure?”

First, the TMOD supporters introduced their favorite historical figures.
Since people get passionate when talking about something they love, the meeting started with a slight delay due to the enthusiasm.

Word of the Day

The Word of the Day was “Bright.”
It was a perfect choice for a day that truly felt like spring!

Table Topics Session

The Table Topics Master for this meeting was TM.T.
Following the meeting theme, six questions related to history were prepared.

The questions ranged from historical figures to personal history, requiring a great deal of imagination.
Each question was well-thought-out and engaging.

Prepared Speech Session

First Speaker: TM.O
This was TM.O’s first speech since joining YTMC!
Starting with an icebreaker introducing their hobbies and personal background, they spoke about the career path they have carved out for themselves.

It was a confident speech that didn’t feel like a first-time attempt.
We were truly impressed and are looking forward to their future speeches! Let’s continue to grow YTMC together!

Second Speaker: TM.K
TM.K delivered a speech on “VISION and GOALS.”

TM.K explained that projects without a clear vision tend to fail, whereas projects with a well-defined vision are more likely to succeed.
Using personal experiences and analogies, TM.K effectively conveyed this message, making it a very inspiring speech.

Evaluation Session

The General Evaluator was TM.U, who took on this role for the first time.

The General Evaluator is responsible for assessing the entire meeting, from the opening to the evaluation of individual evaluators.
Despite being their first time in this role, TM.U provided detailed and precise feedback.

Individual Evaluators

• TM.M:
  Known for providing insightful critiques, TM.M offered constructive feedback to first-time speaker TM.O, skillfully incorporating humor while comparing with their own speaking experience.
• TM.N:
  Focused on body language and gestures in speeches, giving clear and valuable suggestions for improvement.

Finally, the TMOD supporters provided feedback, bringing the meeting to a close.

今年3回目の例会が始まりました。

本日のWord of the dayはUltimately（最後に、ついに、結局、究極的には）です。

TMODは例会テーマにYour Success Storyというテーマを選んだベテランのTM.T.Sさん。どんなYour Success Storyが出てくるのか楽しみです。

TM.T.TさんのSuccess Storyは、子供のころに二重跳びができたというかわいいお話でした。

Table Topic Masterは風邪で急遽お休みしたTM.A.Hさんのピンチヒッター、TM.Y.Oさんです。冬をテーマにした質問で、冬のスポーツや、冬のイヤな思い出など、とても分かりやすく回答しやすいものでした。

本日の事前準備スピーチは４名です。

一番目のスピーカーTM.K.Oさんは、This is me！というタイトルで、子供の頃からの悪い癖が大人になった今でも残ったままであることをユーモア交えて話してくれました。

二番目のスピーカーは、入会したてのTM.A.Jさんです。A is for…というタイトルで、自身のFirst Nameのスペルを頭文字にした形容詞を一つずつチョイスし、しっかりWord of the Dayを使いつつ、斬新なIce breakerスピーチを披露してくれました。

三番目のスピーカーはTM.M.Nさん。New friendsというタイトルで新しい友好関係の心温まるエピソードを交えたスピーチをしてくれました。

四番目のスピーカーはTM.K.Mさん。タイトルはQue Sera Sera What my mother taught me 。14歳のときに空襲を経験した母親から教わったことを話してくれ、感動的なスピーチでした。

休憩を経て、Evaluation Session。本日のEvaluatorは4名です。

一番目のEvaluatorはTM.K.T です。事前にスピーチの目的などの情報提供がなかったことについて、苦言を呈されたものの、なぜか彼女が言うと嫌な感じがしないというところが、彼女の持ち味です。

二番目のEvaluatorはTM.H.Oさん、スピーカーTM.A.Jさんのメンターでもある彼は、「彼（メンティー）の成功は自分の成功」と豪語しつつも、彼らしい流暢な論評を繰り広げてくれました。

三番目のEvaluatorは、TM.H.Nさん。ベテランスピーカーTM.N.Mさんを相手にしっかり突っ込みを入れた論評でした。

四番目のEvaluatorは、TM.S.Rさん。いつもニコニコ笑顔の彼女は、笑いながら毒を盛るタイプでもあります。最後にしっかりスピーチの目的に沿いましょう、鋭く指摘をしてくれました。

The third meeting of this year has begun. Today’s Word of the Day is “Ultimately” (finally, eventually, in the end, ultimately). The TMOD is the veteran TM.T.S, who chose the theme “Your Success Story” for the meeting. I’m looking forward to hearing what kind of Your Success Story will come out.

TM.T.T’s Success Story was a cute tale about being able to do double skip when she was a child.

The Table Topic Master is TM.Y.O, who is filling in for TM.A.H, who called in sick suddenly. The questions were themed about winter, making them very easy to answer, covering winter sports and unpleasant winter memories.

There are four prepared speeches today. The first speaker, TM.K.O, spoke humorously about how bad habits from childhood still remain in adulthood with the title “This is me!”

 The second speaker is the newly joined TM.A.J, who presented an innovative Ice Breaker speech titled “A is for…” where he chose adjectives starting with the letters of his first name while effectively using the Word of the Day.

The third speaker, TM.M.N, gave a speech titled “New friends,” sharing a heartwarming episode about new friendships.

The fourth speaker, TM.K.M, titled his speech “Que Sera Sera What my mother taught me,” sharing what he learned from his mother, who experienced air raids at her age of 14, delivering a touching speech.

The first evaluator was TM.K.T. Although she expressed some dissatisfaction about the lack of information provided in advance regarding the purpose of the speech, there is something about her that makes it not offensive when she says it, which is her charm.

The second evaluator was TM.H.O, who is also the mentor of speaker TM.A.J. He boasted that “his (mentee’s) success is my success,” while delivering a fluent critique in his own style.

The third evaluator was TM.H.N. He provided a solid critique, firmly challenging experienced speaker TM.N.M.

The fourth evaluator was TM.S.R. Always smiling, she is also the type to sprinkle in some sharp comments while laughing. She pointed out that we should stick closely to the purpose of the speech.

The award winners for today are as follows: Best Speaker Award TM.K.M, Best Table Topics Award TM.N.M, Best Evaluator Award TM.H.O. Today’s meeting was lively and enjoyable.

2025年1月25日、第827回通常例会は午後2時に時間通りに開始されました。

本日は3名のゲストがいらっしゃり、内1名は初めてのご参加、内2名は入会表明され２月の例会で正式会員になる予定です！楽しみですね。

本日の司会（Toastmaster of the Day: TMOD）はTM Uです。半年前に入会され、今回初めてTMOD役にチャレンジされました。初のTMODということで、TM Usubaが設定した今日の例会のテーマは「挑戦」です。
そして出された質問は、「あなたの今年の挑戦（又はゴール）は何ですか？」でした。

各役割のメンバーは、それぞれこの質問についても回答しました。ユニークな回答をされた中では、、、

“コロナやインフルエンザや風邪をひかないよう健康維持”　“ハンバーガーを割ける(見ない＆食べない)こと”

“トーストマスターでのコンテストに挑戦すること”　“あまり頑張りすぎないこと（あまり新しいチャレンジをしない）”　など・・・

「今日の言葉」Word of The Dayの担当 は、 TM Mでした。

Exceptionally  = 異常に、非常に、並外れて、格段に、などの意味を持っている単語を選ばれました。

 例文としては、Your speech was exceptionally great.　などです。

今日のGrammarian(文法係) は前回の例会で正式会員となったばかりのＴＭ Aでした。Aさんは英語ネイティブの方ですが「英語を話す上で、話そうとする意欲や伝えようとする気持ちが一番大切！」と、我々日本人にはとても刺さるメッセージをお話しされつつも、「でもやはり文法も大事だよね。」と添えていました。

次の即興スピーチセッション（Table Topic Session）は、経験豊富なTM Noriaki Sakamotoさんが担当されました。本日の例会のテーマである「挑戦」にまつわる質問を投げかけ、とてもスムーズな進行で盛り上げてくださいました。

例会のメインである準備スピーチセッションでは３名の会員が、個性豊かな

TM M：スピーチタイトルは「The Trigger」

英語が得意で自分の自身に繋がっていたものが、米国の旅行中にだと思っていた英語が上手く伝わらなかったり聞き取れなかったりし、挫折を味わう。。。そこからのご自身の心境の変化や英語学習の取り組みの変化について、とても情景描写豊かにスピーチされていました。

TM Shao：

母国にいるご両親との距離感や関係性について、ご自身の体験や出来事を盛り込み、わかりやすくスピーチされていました。

TM Tachi : スピーチタイトルは「Just Keep Walking」

突然きた膝の痛み・・・歩くのも辛いほどの痛みから、毎週通院した際の医師との会話やアドバイスからの変化。その後の膝の回復、歩くことの大切さについて、心を込めてスピーチをされていました。

後半の論評セッションです。トーストマスターズクラブでは「先生」がいないため、各メンバーへのフィードバック、助言が、とても大切な要素となっています。本日の総合論評（General Evaluator）は経験豊富なTM Aが担当されました。論評セッション全体をとてもスムーズに進行し、各３名の論評者に対しても、次につながるTipsを添えてアドバイスをされていました。

その後、再び例会の進行がTMODのTM Uに戻り、表彰式を行いました。

おめでとうございます！

TM Uはまだ入会して半年、そして初めてのTMODとは思えないくらい、とても落ち着いて例会進めてくださいました。初めてTMODをやった感想として「準備は少し大変だが、例会当日はスピーカーのスピーチを聞くことに専念できるし、Table Topicsにもあたることがないので、楽しめた！笑」と添えていました。

初めてのTMOD、お疲れさまでした！

最後に会長のTM Aより、幾つかアナウンスがありました。

Yokohama Toastmasters Club – 827th Regular Meeting Report

The 827th regular meeting of the Yokohama Toastmasters Club started promptly at 2:00 PM.
Today, we were joined by three guests—one attending for the first time and two who have declared their intention to join as official members at the February meeting. We’re excited to welcome them aboard!

Meeting Overview

The Toastmaster of the Day (TMOD) was TM U, who joined the club six months ago and took on the challenge of serving as TMOD for the first time. TM U chose the theme “Challenge” for today’s meeting. The Question of the Day was:
“What is your challenge (or goal) this year?”
Each role player shared their answer to the question. Some unique answers included:

• Maintaining good health and avoiding colds, the flu, and COVID-19.
• Resisting the temptation to eat or even see hamburgers.
• Taking part in the Toastmasters contest.
• Not overexerting oneself and avoiding too many new challenges.

Word of the Day

The Word of the Day was introduced by TM M:  Exceptionally – meaning “extremely, unusually, remarkably.”
Example: “Your speech was exceptionally great.”

Grammarian

Today’s grammarian was TM A, who became an official member at the last meeting. Although TM A is a native English speaker, they emphasized to us that the most important thing in speaking English is the willingness and desire to communicate, and that “grammar is important, too!”

Table Topics Session

The Table Topics session was led by the experienced TM Noriaki Sakamoto. He posed several thought-provoking questions related to the meeting theme of “Challenge,” creating a smooth and engaging session:

1. What is your memorable challenge?
2. What was the most challenging food for you, and how did you overcome it?
3. What do you think is most important to make a challenge successful?
4. What do you think is the major reason for failure in a challenge?
5. Are you the type of person who embraces challenges or avoids them? Why?
6. Who do you think is the most challenging person in YTMC?
7.  

Prepared Speeches

In the main session of prepared speeches, three members gave speeches filled with personal stories:

• TM M: The title of the speech was “The Trigger.” TM M shared a deeply personal story about struggles with English communication during a trip to the US, where their attempts to express themselves and understand others led to frustration. The speech described their emotional journey and the changes they made in their approach to learning English.
• TM S: TM Shao gave a heartfelt speech about the relationship and distance with their parents back in their home country, sharing their experiences in a very relatable way.
• TM T: The title of the speech was “Just Keep Walking.” TM Tachi spoke about suddenly developing knee pain and the challenges they faced in daily life, the changes that occurred through visits to the doctor, and how walking became more significant after recovering. The speech conveyed the importance of perseverance and health.

Evaluations

Since Toastmasters clubs do not have formal “teachers,” feedback and advice from fellow members are crucial. Today’s General Evaluator was the experienced TM A, who smoothly facilitated the session and provided insightful tips to each evaluator.

Afterward, the meeting proceeded with the awards ceremony:

Closing Remarks

TM U, despite being a member for only six months and hosting their first TMOD, did an excellent job in leading the meeting with composure. When reflecting on their first time as TMOD, they mentioned that while the preparation was a bit challenging, the actual meeting allowed them to focus on listening to the speeches and enjoy the session without having to participate in Table Topics. Well done, TM U!
