What do you get when you combine sweltering summer weather, cold brew coffee, and inspiring speeches? One unforgettable Toastmasters meeting at YTMC!

今週のYTMC（Yokohama Toastmasters Club）839回目の例会も、笑いあり学びありの充実した時間となりました。

☀️ President’s Warm Welcome

Our President, TM.M kicked things off with a reflection on the day’s weather rollercoaster—humid rain suddenly turning into blazing sunshine. Just like Yokohama’s skies, this meeting was full of surprises!
We also heard exciting news about the Youtube Group’s upcoming live hybrid event on August 1st. Only 36 lucky attendees won in-person tickets through a 0.03% lottery! Our President will be heading to Sendai for the event and, sadly, will miss the next meeting. We expect great stories when she returns!

会長の開会挨拶では、梅雨明けの蒸し暑さと、それを吹き飛ばすような明るい話題が紹介されました。会長推しのユーチューバーアーティストのライブが8月1日に予定されており、36名限定の抽選はなんと当選確率0.03%！奇跡的に当たった会長が参加予定とのこと。次回例会には不在とのことですが、後日エピソードをお聞きするのが楽しみです。

💼 Business Matters

Toastmasters isn’t all speeches—we handle business too. Our club treasurer TM.I proposed to add PayPay as an accepted payment method. Efficiency, here we come!

ビジネスセッションでは会計担当役員より、「会費等の支払い方法にPayPayを導入する提案」がありました。時代に即した提案に、クラブ運営もよりスムーズになりそうです。

💡 Thrive Was the Word!

Thanks to TM.J, our Word of the Day was “Thrive” – and it perfectly captured the spirit of the meeting. And thrive we did—from surviving the heat to thriving in our roles!

TM.Jより紹介された「Thrive」は、まさにこの日のテーマにふさわしい言葉でした。暑さを乗り越えるだけでなく、スピーカーとしても一歩成長する──そんな気持ちを後押ししてくれました。

🎤 Meet the Team:

• TMOD (Toastmaster of the Day): TM.A led with the creative theme: “Favorite survival item to get through summer.” Her pick? A reusable ice pack under ¥2,000. Cool and clever!
• Grammarian: TM.U brought an insulated water bottle—and iced coffee powder. A man with priorities!
• Ah-Counter: TM.S claimed all he needs to get through summer is willpower. Respect.
• Vote Counter: TM.S’s secret weapon: year-round arm covers to dodge UV rays.
• Timer: TM’I kept us running like clockwork with her stylish UV resistant UNIQLO hoodie.
• Web Reporter: That’s me- TM.T- breaking up with ice cream as my first step on the Diet Mastery pathway!

TMOD（司会）：TM.Aが「夏を乗り切るためのお気に入りアイテム」というユニークなテーマを設定。おすすめは、¥2,000以内で買える再利用可能な氷のう！

グラマリアン：TM.Uは保温ボトルとアイスコーヒー粉末を持参し、優雅に夏を楽しむ術を紹介。

アー・カウンター：TM.Sは「夏は気合いで乗り切るのみ！」という力強いメッセージ。

投票係：TM.Sは、年間を通じて活躍するUVカットアームカバーを紹介。

タイマー：TM’IはUNIQLOのUVカットパーカーを着こなし、時間管理も日差し対策も完璧。

Webレポーター：アイスクリームとの訣別を宣言し、ダイエットへの決意を新たに。

🗣️ Table Topics – Summer Heat Meets Business Heat

Our Vice President Education, TM. O, kicked off the impromptu speech section by sharing how hopping around convenience store locations helps him cool off. The topics took a creative spin on job interview interview scenarios.

• Calendar Crisis: TM.T chose the customer over the CEO. That’s how you thrive in business!
• Explain Your Job to a 5-Year-Old: TM.S nailed it with a classroom-style lecture.
• Replaced by AI: TM.S had already surrendered the job to AI—and was totally fine with it. Retire in peace!
• New CEO Policy: TM.N proposed a 3-day workweek. Yes, please.
• TED Talk Topic? TM.J would champion empathy in business. A message the world needs!
• Team Player or Lone Wolf? TM.T prefers working solo—but still shows up as a team player at Toastmasters!

即興スピーチセッションでは、教育担当副会長のTM.Oが、猛暑をしのぐ裏技として「コンビニはしご術」を披露して会場の笑いを誘いました。

今回のトピックは、架空の就職面接をテーマにしたユニークな設定でした。

予定がバッティング！CEO vs 顧客：TM.TはCEOよりも大切な顧客を選び、ビジネスの本質を体現。

5歳児に自分の仕事を説明：TM.Sは教室形式で分かりやすく説明。

AIに職を奪われたら？：TM.Sは「もうリタイアしたかった」とあっさり受け入れ。潔し！

CEOになったら最初に実施する政策は？：TM.Nは週3勤務制度を提案。働き方改革の波がここにも。

TEDトークをするなら？：TM.Jは「ビジネスにおける共感」を熱弁。

チームワーク派？個人プレイ？：TM.Tは「一人で集中する派」ながら、クラブでは立派に協働！

🧊 Prepared Speeches – Cool Ideas, Warm Hearts

• A delivered a speech on Toastmasters with a refreshing armpit-cooling tip that left us both informed and chilled! Her experience about attending Toastmasters meeting across boarders including Taiwan, Korea, Hong Kong left us with creative ideas for our own meetings!
• N’s “A Wall” was a deeply moving Icebreaker that took us through memories of cousins, invisible barriers, and personal growth.
• I spoke about “The Debate Club,” advocating for respectful argument and structured thinking, with a side of beer and a sprinkle of kendo!

 

• A 「The Toastmasters」脇の下に保冷剤を仕込む裏技に始まり、台湾・韓国・香港など、海外クラブとの交流経験をシェア。クラブ運営のヒントが満載でした。
• Nのアイスブレークスピーチ「A Wall」は、親戚との思い出や見えない壁、そして成長についての感動的なストーリーでした。
• Iの「Debate Club」ではディベートの意義を語り、議論は対立ではなく相互理解であることを力説。ビールと剣道の話も交え、聞き応えのあるスピーチに！

🌟 Evaluations – Growth in Action

TM.O, taking on the General Evaluator role for her first time, was detailed and supportive, just like her trusty water bottle filled with free MUJI water.

• T praised TM.A’s unique perspectives that provided relavant insights to fellow member and her crisis management skills in addressing tech failure, but suggested a stronger conclusion.
• O applauded TM.N’s heartfelt journey, recommending less reliance on notes.
• T commended TM.I’s clarity and message of respectful disagreement, while encouraging more vocal dynamics and pause.

初めてGeneral Evaluator（総合論評者）を務めたTM.Oは、大量のMUJI水で水分補給をしつつ論評セッションを進行。初とは思えぬ安定感でした。

TM.TはTM.Aの明快な全体構成と機器トラブル対応力を高く評価。その後、明確な結論や、聴衆へのアクション呼びかけがあると、より印象に残ると指摘。

TM.OはTM.Nの心に響くストーリー性を評価し、メモの見過ぎに注意するようアドバイス。

TM.TはTM.Iの論理構成を評価し、声の抑揚や間の使い方に工夫を加えるとさらに効果的と助言。
