英会話教室との違いはなんですか？
What is the difference between English conversation classes and Toastmasters?
英会話教室との最も大きな違いは、先生や教材がないことです。トーストマスターズにはコミュニケーションとリーダーシップのスキルを上達させるためにプラクティカルガイドがあります。このガイドに沿って自分でスキルを磨いていきます。
The difference between English classes and TM is that we have neither teachers nor textbooks. Instead, we have practical guidebooks to increase our communication and leadership skills. We hone and improve these skills at a meeting according to these guidebooks.
プロのスピーチの先生から指導を受けるのですか？
Do we receive an instruction from a professional speech teacher?
先生からのスピーチの指導はございません。その代わりに、例会はワークショップ形式となりますので、会員が例会に参加し、スピーチすることを通してスピーチのスキルを高めます。
No lectures will be given by professionals. Instead, members will practice and brush up communication and leadership skills by performing a given role at a workshop-style meeting.
英語のレベルに自信がないですが、参加できますか？
I have no confidence in my English ability. Can I join the meeting?
参加できます。参加している会員の英語のレベルは様々です。
Of course, you can join our meetings. We have various members with diverse English skills.
人前で話すのが苦手なのですが、大丈夫でしょうか？
I am a bad public speaker. I wonder if I can join?
大丈夫です。例会に参加することで、人前で話す練習になり、会員からもスピーチのアドバイスをもらうことができます。
Don’t worry. You can learn how to make a public speech naturally just by participating in a meeting, in which you can practice speaking in front of the audience as well as receive feedbacks and advise from other members.
見学は何回まで無料ですか？
How many times can I visit a meeting for free?
見学は3回まで無料です。3回の見学で例会の雰囲気を楽しんでください。最後に例会の感想を聞かせてください。
You can visit our meetings up to three times for free. Please enjoy the atmosphere of the meeting. At the end of the meeting, our President will ask you to give us your comments about the meeting.
見学する際の注意点はありますか？
Are there any instructions/precautions upon visiting a meeting?
お気軽にお越しください。会場が変更になる場合がありますので、担当者に連絡をお願いします。
Feel free to visit our meeting anytime. Please contact our staff to confirm a meeting time and place before each visit.
見学は予約制ですか？
Do I have to make a reservation before visiting a meeting?
見学は予約をしなくても可能ですが、事前に例会に参加する旨を担当者へ連絡していただけると、例会の時間や場所をお知らせします。
You can visit our meeting without reservation. However, if you contact our staff to visit the meeting in advance, we will let you know the time and place of the meeting you’d like to come to.
例会の時間は会場は毎回変わりますか？
Do time and place of a meeting change every time?
例会は第1と第3土曜日の14：00～16：00に波止場会館をホームグランドとして開催されます。波止場会館を使用できない場合には、関内駅、桜木町駅周辺の会議室を借りて開催しています。
We hold a meeting regularly from 2 pm to 4 pm on the first and third Saturday at Hatoba Kaikan as our home ground. When Hatoba Kaikan is unavailable, we will instead hold a meeting near Kannai station or Sakuragicho station.
クラブの入会について / How to join the club
入会に必要な条件はありますか？
Is there any condition to join a TM club?
トーストマスターズの規約上、年齢が18歳以上という条件がございます。英語のスキル等に関する条件は、ございません。英語でコミュニケーションやリーダーシップを学びたい気持ちがあれば十分です。
By the rules of Toastmasters International, you have to be over 18 years old. There are no other conditions. Anyone who is willing to learn communication and leadership skills is welcome to join our club.
入会時に持ってくる物はありますか？
What should I bring to the meeting for registration?
ゲストカードやスピーチへのフィードバックを記入していただくので筆記用具があると便利です。それ以外には特にご持参いただく必要はありません。
Having stationery at hand would be helpful when filling out a guest card or feedback sheets to speakers.
クラブの入会金や会費はいくらでしょうか？
How much are the entrance and membership fees?
入会金2,500円、月1,200円の会費が必要になります。
会費は半年ごと（10月と3月）に集金しますので、銀行振込または例会で直接担当者に支払ってください。
The Entrance fee is 2,500 yen, and our membership fee is 1,200 yen per month. The membership fee should be paid biannually (in October and March) to a club accountant or through bank transfer.
入会金・会費以外でかかる費用はありますか？
Will there be an additional expense to the entrance and membership fees?
会場までの交通費と懇親会費（例会後の飲み会）がかかります。懇親会への参加は自由です。例会後にお時間があれば参加して、会員とのコミュニケーションを楽しんでください。
You need to pay for the transportation to get to the venue and a drinking bill if you wish to join the after-meeting drinking party (whether to join it or not is up to you). These parties are so much fun, please join us and have fun together if you have time.

What is Toastmasters?
トーストマスターズ・インターナショナル(Toastmasters International)は、1924年カリフォルニア州のサンタアナにあるYMCAからスタートした、話し方、パブリック・スピーキング(大勢の人前で話すこと)、リーダーシップ・スキルの上達を目的とする、非営利教育団体(NPO)です。日本を含む141カ国以上で35.2万人以上のトーストマスターズ会員が、16,400以上のクラブに所属しています。
From a humble beginning in 1924 at the YMCA in Santa Ana, California, Toastmasters International has grown to become a world leader in helping people become more competent and comfortable in front of an audience. The nonprofit organization now has nearly 352,000 members in more than 16,400 clubs in 141 countries.
宗教団体・政治団体などと関係はありますか？
Does Toastmasters have anything to do with religions or other NPO’s?
当クラブは、宗教団体、政治団体、セミナー団体、営利団体等、一切関係がありません。（ご安心ください。）
We are not affiliated with any other organizations, including NPO’s or any religions (rest assured).
「トーストマスター(toastmaster)」とは、どういう意味ですか？
What does ‘toastmasters’ mean?
「トーストマスター(toastmaster)」とは、「乾杯の音頭を取る人」を表しています。
‘Toastmaster’ means someone who makes a toast. Therefore, we aim to become a master of making a ‘Toast’.

What makes YTMC different from other Toastmasters Clubs?
例会が土曜日の午後なので、休日を楽しむために参加しているメンバーが多いです。雰囲気はとてもアットホームな感じですが、そのような中でも英語でコミュニケーションやリーダシップを積極的に学んでいけるというのが、当クラブの魅力です。ぜひ一度見学して、当クラブの雰囲気を感じてみてください！
YTMC meets biweekly on the first and third Saturday from 2 pm to 4 pm. One of YTMC’s advantages is to be able to learn communication and leadership skills in a relaxed, homey atmosphere. We recommend that you join our club and enjoy a fun meeting together!
例会は英語のみで行うとのことですが、休憩中も英語で話さなければならないのでしょうか？
Should I talk in English during intermission, too?
いいえ、特にルールは設けていません。日本語での会話も可能です。但し、日本人以外のメンバーも所属しているため、日本人同士でも積極的に英語を使ってコミュニケーションをとるメンバーもいます。
We don’t set any rules and we are allowed to speak in any languages during break-time. However, since we have non-Japanese members, some Japanese members communicate in English actively.
メンバーは何名くらいいますか？
How many members does Yokohama TMC have?
現在、約40名の方が会員になっております、各例会には20~25名が参加しています。
We currently have approx. 40 members with 20 to 25 individuals attending each meeting regularly.
ホームページにたくさん写真を掲載していますが、ゲストが写った写真も掲載されますか？
I see a lot of photos on your Website. Are photos of guests also posted on the Website?
毎例会、イベントごとに写真を撮っていますが、ホームページに掲載する前に、ゲスト・会員には、写真を掲載して問題ないか確認をしております。（無断で掲載することはありません。）掲載してほしくない場合は、その旨をお知らせください。
We make a rule to ask members and guests in advance at each meeting and event if it would be OK to take and upload photos of them onto our Website (we will NOT post any pictures of you without your permission.) If you don’t wish for your photos to be posted publicly, please let us know.
どのような人が所属していますか？
Tell me about the demographics of your club.
20代から60代まで幅広いメンバーが所属しています。英語については、英語ネイティブの方、日本以外のアジア圏出身の方、海外滞在経験者や英語をよく使うお仕事の方など、様々です。幅広い年齢層ですが和気あいあいとした雰囲気です。
YTMC members include a wide variety of nationalities, age and experience from business professionals to students. The atmosphere of our meetings is cheerful with lots of humor and fun!

子どもを連れて行っても大丈夫でしょうか？
Can I attend the meeting with my children or a baby?
当クラブでは、お子さんを連れて例会に参加することをご遠慮いただいております。トーストマスターズの規約上、18歳未満の方は例会に参加できないことになっております。この旨をご理解いただいた上で、見学にご参加ください。
We are afraid to say but due to the regulations of Toastmasters International, persons under 18 years of age cannot attend or join the club. Please be kindly forewarned.
コンテストのようなものはあるのでしょうか？
Are there speech contests or the likes?
毎年春と秋にトーストマスターズのスピーチコンテストがあります。これらは、クラブコンテストから始まり、上位入賞者はエリア、ディビジョン、ディストリクトという順番で、上のレベルのコンテストに出場することができます。スピーチコンテストはトーストマスターズの伝統行事になっており、特に春に行われる国際スピーチコンテストはアジア大会と世界大会も開催され、トーストマスターズの一大イベントとなっています。
In each spring and autumn, we hold a speech contest. Speech contests are Toastmasters’ tradition. There are four steps to take to become a champion in Japan (District 76). A competition begins at a club contest, a winner of which will proceed to the Area contest and then the Division contest. The winners of each division will compete at the District 76 (Japan) contest. Furthermore, the District winner of the spring speech contest will move up to the contest held in Asia, and then to the World contest.
他のクラブとの交流はありますか？
Are there interchanges among clubs?
合同例会という形で、他のクラブと交流を行っているクラブもあります。またコンテストの運営を他のクラブと合同で行うこともあるので、これらの機会を利用して他のクラブの方と交流を深めることができます。
We have some interchanges among other clubs through joint meetings or attending other club meetings. Since speech contests are conducted together with other club members, we have a chance to communicate with other club members.
