秋晴れの中、YTMC regular meeting #797が開催されました。
本例会では４名のゲストも参加され、活気が溢れる例会のスタートとなりました。
Word of the day はTM Tさんがご担当されました。形容詞の”Fine”を選んでいただきました。
Fineは様々な場面で使用できる便利な言葉ですのし、また、当日は秋晴れということもあり、センスが光る素晴らしいWODでした。
TMODはTM K.Rさん。
初めてのTMODということもあり若干緊張気味でしたが、事前準備が素晴らしく、スムーズに進行していただきました。
Table TopicsはTM Oが担当されました。
今回は実験的な試みとしてIPPONグランプリを模したTable Topicsを実施。
Tell me fine lie、Say something about this picture, What happens if I press all the buttons on your computers at once?など面白いお題ばかりで、いろんな意味で緊張感があったセッションになりました。回答された４名の方も難しいお題にも関わらず、素晴らしい回答ばかりでした。
Prepared speechは３名の方が行いました。
TM Nさんはmaintaining a toastmasters lifeと題して、英語を如何にして上達させていくかという観点からご自身の経験をベースにスピーチを行っていただきました。ヒアリングではTEDの活用やNHKニュースを使用したり、最近ではYouTubeを使用した勉強法など行っているなど、英語上達に向けて真摯に取り組んでいるTM HNの姿勢には感銘を受けました。
TM N.Sさんは mentors in my lifeと題してスピーチを行っていただきました。ビジネス上お会いした２名のメンターを通して得た教訓を、実際にご経験したプロジェクトをベースにスピーチいただきました。マネジメントスタイルにも様々ある中で、部下をサポートするマネジメントやダイバーシティな環境で聴く力を持ったマネージメントが必要など、様々な示唆に富んだスピーチあったと思います。また、最高のメンターは褒めて育ててくれる奥さんのTM T.Sであると語ってくださり、TM NSの人柄が伝わってくるスピーチでした。
TM Kさんは How to become a good impromptu speaker?と題して、30分のパネルディスカッションを行いました。以前table topics向けのworkshopから学んだ内容に感銘を受け、YTMCから経験豊な３名をパネリストとして参加いただき、どのような考えでテーブルトピックスに挑んでいるのかディスカッションを行っていただきました。
パネルディスカッションの中では。TM Tからご自身の経験をベースに、ネガティブな事柄を含め失敗を気にせず、テーブルトピックスのお題に取り組んでいること。TM Oは自身の発言をレビューし、次に活かすこと、TM Aさんからは、本来テーブルトピックスは夕食などのテーブルで話す内容から派生しているので、カジュアルに考えて臨んだらいいなどのアドバイスを発言していた。また参加者も交えて活発な議論がなされ、TM KTさんのファシリテーション力が光るスピーチとなりました。
エバリュエーションはTM T.SをGEにお迎えして行いました。
1st evaluatorは TM Tさん。
多くの改善を行っていることを賞賛し、努力の成果もあり、英語力は改善していると賞賛し、同じ課題を抱えている方にとって、良い示唆があったのではないかとコメント。Evaluation sheetに沿ってエバリュエーションも行っていただき、理解がしやすい内容が良かった点とした一方、声のトーンにバリエーションを加えると更に魅力あるスピーチになると助言されていました。
2nd evaluatorはTM Nさん
メンターのエピソードから何を学んだかをうまく伝えられていたことを良い点として挙げてられ、改善点として声のバラティーに関して挙げられておられ、具体的な例も発表された内容に沿って実演されていたので、とても良い改善のやり方であると思いました。
3rd evaluatorは TM Aさん
エバリュエーションシートを早めにくれた点やタイムスケジュールなど、準備が素晴らしい点を挙げておられた。30分と長いスピーチにも関わらず時間が長く感じなかったのは、時間をうまく管理できていたからではないかとコメント。改善点として、PPTのビジュアルや感情を込めて伝えてくれたらもっと良くなるとコメント。

Word of the day が季節に合っていて良かった点を挙げられていました。
TTのIPPONグランプリはおもしろっかったが、各スピーカーがもっと長く話せたらと改善点もコメントいただいた。

On a clear autumn day, YTMC regular meeting #797 was held. Four guests participated in this meeting, adding to the lively atmosphere.
The Word of the Day was presented by TM T-san, who chose the adjective “Fine.” “Fine” is a versatile word that can be used in various situations, and on that particular day with the clear autumn weather, it was a fantastic word choice.
The Toastmaster of the Day (TMOD) was TM K.R-san. Despite being the first time as TMOD, it seems like there was a slightly nervousness, but the excellent preparation led to a smooth and well-executed meeting.
Table Topics were conducted by TM O-san, who introduced an experimental approach with Table Topics inspired by the IPPON Grand Prix. The session included interesting topics such as “Tell me a fine lie,” “Say something about this picture,” and “What happens if I press all the buttons on your computers at once?” Despite the challenging topics, the four respondents provided excellent and impressive answers, adding tension to the session.
Three prepared speeches were delivered. TM N-san spoke on “Maintaining a Toastmasters Life,” sharing experiences based on improving English proficiency. The speech highlighted TM HN’s sincere efforts to enhance English skills, incorporating methods like using TED talks, NHK news, and recently studying with YouTube.
TM N.S-san delivered a speech titled “Mentors in My Life,” drawing lessons from two mentors encountered in business. The speech touched on various management styles, emphasizing the need for supportive management for subordinates and the importance of listening skills in a diverse environment. TM N.S also praised his wife, TM T.S, as the best mentor, showcasing his personality in the speech.
TM K-san conducted a 30-minute panel discussion titled “How to become a good impromptu speaker?” Inspired by a workshop on table topics, three experienced members from YTMC participated as panelists, discussing their approaches to table topics. The discussion included TM T’s experience of tackling table topics without worrying about failures, TM O’s practice of reviewing and applying her own statements, and TM A’s advice to approach table topics casually, considering their origin from dinner table conversations. Active discussions involving participants highlighted TM KT-san’s facilitation skills.
The evaluation session was led by TM T.S-san as the General Evaluator (GE).
The first evaluator, TM T-san, praised the improvements made, acknowledging the efforts and improvements in English proficiency. The evaluator suggested adding variation to the tone of voice for a more engaging speech.
The second evaluator, TM N-san, commended the effective communication of lessons learned from mentorship experiences, noting a specific improvement in vocal variety. The evaluator considered the inclusion of concrete examples and demonstrations as a very effective method of improvement.
The third evaluator, TM A-san, praised the early submission of the evaluation sheet and excellent preparation, noting the effective time management despite the lengthy speech. The evaluator suggested improving the speech further by incorporating visual elements and expressing emotions through the presentation.
In conclusion, the GE expressed gratitude to the guests, highlighted the excellent management of the TMOD, and appreciated the seasonally fitting Word of the Day. While enjoying the interesting IPPON Grand Prix in Table Topics, the suggestion for improvement was made that speakers could talk for a bit longer.
Finally, awards were presented, with TM A-san receiving Best Evaluator, TM O-san receiving Best Table Topics, and TM K-san receiving Best Prepared Speech.
In closing, thanks were extended to everyone for their wonderful speeches, and anticipation for the next meeting.
