この日の司会者（Toastmaster of the Day）はTM Uでした。例会のテーマは「Luckey
Bug(Fukubukuro)」、新年一回目の会合にふさわしいトピックです。そして会場は波止場会
館の４F, 素晴らしい天気で窓から横浜の海と豪華客船を見ながらの会合となりました。
The Toastmaster of the Day was TM U. The meeting theme was “Luckey Bug
(Fukubukuro),” a fitting topic for the first meeting of the new year. The venue was the 4th
floor of the Harbor Hall. With splendid weather, we enjoyed the meeting while gazing out
the windows at Yokohama's sea and the luxury cruise ships.
テーブルトピックセッションの担当はTM Oでした。コンテストが近いために、コンテス
ト形式で行われました。すべての参加者に同じ題をだすのです。５名の参加者を指名して
、場外にでてもらった後に提示されたお題は「What is your favorite way to relax?」。比較
的に答えやすいお題です。
The Table Topics session was led by TM O. With the contest approaching, it was conducted
in a contest format. All participants were given the same topic. After five participants were
selected and asked to step outside, the topic presented was “What is your favorite way to
relax?” It was a relatively easy topic to answer.
１人づつ入場してお題が知らされます。ＴＭ Ｏは読書、ＴＭ Ｎは映画、ＴＭ Ｔ は草取り
、ＴＭ Ｉはお風呂、とそれぞれ人柄を感じさせる発表です。結果的に優勝したＴＭ Ｔは配
偶者が大病から戻ってきた日常への感謝をスピーチされました。
Each participant entered one by one and was given a topic. TM O's was reading, TM N's
was movies, TM T's was weeding, and TM I's was bathing—each announcement revealing
something about their character. Ultimately, the winner, TM T, gave a speech expressing
gratitude for the everyday life she shared with her spouse, who had recovered from a
serious illness.
つづいて準備スピーチ。ＴＭ Ａはマンションの掃除をしていただいている方から感じた「
ありがとう」という言葉の大切さ。ＴＭ Ｋは展示会出展で経験したリーダーと部下の期待
の違いとリーダーの柔軟性の大事さ。ＴＭ Ｍは、コンビニの仕事で経験したコミュニケー
ションのむつかしさと気づきをあたえる重要さ。ＴＭ Ｏは、カナダへの移住を前に経験し
たカナダにおける医療の現状と日本との比較。 を話されました。どの話も実際の深い経
験に基づくスピーチでした。
Next, prepared speeches. TM A spoke about the importance of the word “thank you,” felt
from the person cleaning their apartment. TM K spoke about the difference in expectations
between leaders and subordinates experienced while exhibiting at a trade show, and the
importance of a leader's flexibility. TM M discussed the difficulty of communication
experienced while working at a convenience store and the importance of providing
awareness. TM O shared about the current state of healthcare in Canada and its
comparison to Japan, experienced before moving to Canada. Each speech was based on
deep, real-life experiences.
新年早々の例会でしたが、出席者は30名近く、部屋の３人掛けの机が完全に埋まるほどで
した。新入会員の入会式もあり、またゲストが４名来ており、非常ににぎわった会合とな
りました。ＴＭ of the DAY のＴＭ ＨおよびGeneral Evaluator TM Fの落ち着いた司会進行で
すばらしい新年第１回目の会合となりました。
Despite being the first meeting of the new year, nearly 30 members attended, completely
filling the room's three-person tables. With a new member induction ceremony and four
guests in attendance, it was a very lively gathering. Thanks to the calm and steady
leadership of TM H as TM of the Day and TM F as General Evaluator, it was a wonderful
first meeting of the new year.
