第854回例会レポート / The 854th Regular Meeting Report              

久しぶりにピオシティでの開催となった今回の例会は、晴天に恵まれ、ゲスト4名を含
む約25名の方々にご参加いただきました。当日は花粉が非常に多く、花粉症に苦し
むメンバーも見受けられましたが、会場内はそんな外の空気を吹き飛ばすような熱気
に包まれました。

After a long interval, we held our meeting at Pio City. We were blessed with sunny
weather and welcomed about 25 attendees, including 4 guests. Despite the heavy
pollen causing some struggle for members, the meeting was filled with an enthusiasm
that blew away the spring discomfort.

＜ビジネスセッション / Business Session＞

ビジネスセッションでは、先日開催されたエリアD1スピーチコンテストのエキサイティン
グな結果が共有されました。
 英語国際スピーチコンテスト： TM T 第3位！
 英語テーブルトピックスコンテスト： TM O 第3位！
 日本語スピーチコンテスト： TM I 優勝（第1位）！
さらに、TM TさんがディビジョンF英語スピーチコンテストで優勝し、全日本大会
への進出を決めたという快挙も報告されました。皆様、本当におめでとうございます
！

In the Business Session, we celebrated the exciting results of the Area D1 and
Division F Contests. Congratulations to TM T, TM O, TM I, and TM
T for their amazing achievements!

＜オープニング / Opening＞

本日の司会（Toastmaster of the Day）はTM S。当日がご本人の誕生日ということで、
例会のテーマも「Birthday」に。 参加者からは誕生日にまつわる様々なエピソードが
披露されました。「100人の中に同じ誕生日の人がいる確率は99.9%以上になる」という
興味深い雑学も飛び出し、会場は大いに盛り上がりました。

 

The Toastmaster of the Day was TM T, whose birthday happened to be on the
very same day! The theme was Birthday, and participants shared fascinating
stories, including the trivia that in a group of 100, the chance of two people sharing a
birthday is over 99.9%.

＜テーブルトピックセッション / Table Topics Session＞

テーブルトピックマスターのTM Tからは、以下のトピックが出題されました。
1. Your most memorable birthday
2. Your worst birthday
3. Your birthday interesting particular day
4. User manual of yourself

 

4番は誕生日の直接的な話題ではありませんでしたが、非常に面白い題材でした。ま
た、インドネシアの誕生日にまつわる独特の習慣についての回答もあり、非常に興味
深いセッションとなりました。

Table Topics Master TM T challenged us with topics including memorable and
worst birthdays, and even a User Manual of Yourself. The latter, though not
strictly birthday-related, was a hit. We also learned about interesting birthday
customs in Indonesia.

＜準備スピーチ / Prepared Speech＞

今回は3名のスピーカーが登壇しました。
一人目のスピーカーTM Mさんのテーマは We were losers テニス選手として大学に
入学したものの、怪我で断念せざるを得なかった過去を告白。恩師から英語を勧めら
れたことが現在のキャリアに繋がっているというエピソードを通じ、「出会いが人生を
変える」という力強いメッセージを届けてくれました。
二人目のスピーカーTM AさんのテーマはCongratulatory address エリアD1コンテス
トの入賞者へ温かい祝辞が贈られました。自身がダイレクターを務められていたこと
もあり、ご自身への労いの言葉も含まれた、ユーモアと愛のあるスピーチでした。
３人目のスピーカーTM KさんのテーマはHardcore sightseeing guide of the
destination 全日本大会の会場が北海道であることにちなみ、現地の観光ガイドを披
露。最新施設から、地元の人しか知らないようなディープな名店まで、ビジュアルを駆
使した非常に興味をそそられる内容でした。

1 st speaker TM M shared how a career-ending injury in tennis led him to English,
emphasizing that Encounters change your life.
2 nd speaker TM A gave a heartwarming congratulatory speech for contest winners.
3 rd speaker TM K presented a visual-rich guide to Hokkaido, featuring everything
from new landmarks to hidden local eateries.

 

 

＜特別セッション / Special Session＞

TMODのコメントの後、TM Tによる全国大会（ディストリクト大会）用の練習スピーチが
行われました。テーマは**「Yes, I know」**。 ご自身の母親にまつわる非常に感動的
な内容で、会場全体が静まり返り、聞き入っていました。終了後には、参加者から本
番に向けた非常に的確で熱のこもったフィードバックやアドバイスが送られました。

Following the TMODs comments, TM T practiced his speech for the District
Contest titled Yes, I know. It was a deeply moving story about his mother. After
the speech, members provided insightful feedback and advice to help him polish it
for the big stage.

＜クロージング / Closing＞

各賞の発表が行われ、最後は全員での写真撮影で締めくくられました。お祝いムード
と、コンテストに向けた高揚感が入り混じった、非常に充実した例会となりました。

The meeting wrapped up with awards and a group photo. It was a fulfilling afternoon

今日は久々に開港記念会館を会場として第８５３回の例会が始まりました。
横浜の観光地ともなっている歴史的な会場で例会ができることも横浜トーストマスターズ
クラブの強みですね。元メンバーを含めた５名のゲストをお迎えして、３０名の参加者で
す。

ここのところ、ゲストの方がたくさん来てくれて、とても盛り上がっています。
今日の言葉は”brilliant”です。歴史ある素敵な会場にはピッタリの言葉。きっとどんな場面
でも使いやすいと思うので、意識して使っていきましょう。
Today, our 853rd regular meeting was held at the Port Opening Memorial Hall for the first
time in a while.
Being able to hold meetings at this historic venue, which is also a Yokohama tourist spot, is
one of the strengths of the Yokohama Toastmasters Club. We welcomed five guests,
including former members, for a total of 30 participants.
Lately, we’ve had many guests joining us, making things very lively.
Today’s word is “brilliant.” It’s a perfect word for this beautiful, historic venue. I’m sure it’s
easy to use in any situation, so let’s consciously try to use it.
そして、この日の総合司会はTM　Tさん。経験豊富で、落ち着いた進行をしていただきま
した。テーマは「冬のスポーツ」。ちょうどオリンピック真っ最中。テレビで観戦してい
る人も多いでしょう。役割のある人たち、好きな冬のスポーツの話をシェアしながら進め
ていきましょう。
フィギュアスケートでの素晴らしいパフォーマンスを語る人、新しく始めたスポーツの話
をした人、様々なエピソードを聞くことができました。
And the Toastmaster of the day was TM T. With his wealth of experience, he kept things
running smoothly and calmly. The theme was “Winter Sports.” It was right in the middle of
the Winter Olympics. Many people were probably watching on TV. He moved the meeting
forward by having people share stories about their favorite winter sports.
We heard various stories: someone talking about amazing performances in figure skating,
someone sharing about a sport they’d just started, and many other episodes.
最初のセッション、テーブルトピックはTM　Nさんが担当。Nさんはタロットカードを使
った質問を用意していました。回答者がカードを選んで、そのカードに沿った質問をする
形式で、みんなドキドキです。道具を使ったテーブルトピックセッションはなんだか楽し
い雰囲気になりますね。何が聞かれるかわからないというのは、何年経験してもドキドキ
するものです。質問は以下のような内容でした。

The first session “table topic” was led by TM N. TM N had prepared questions using tarot
cards. Members selected a card and answered a question based on it—everyone was on
pins and needles. Table topic sessions using props always create such a fun atmosphere.
Not knowing what you’ll be asked keeps you excited no matter how many years you’ve
been doing this. The questions were along these lines:
1. What is the most defining turning point in your life?
2. If you were to keep some pets, what would you want to keep?
3. What do you do when you want to relax?

4. If you are planning a party, what kind of party do you want to hold?
5. When does the devil whisper to you?

 

続いて準備スピーチです。１人目のスピーカーTM　Mさんは、入会して初めてのアイスブ
レーキングスピーチ。自分の人生に影響を与えてくれた音楽や経験をシェアしてくれまし
た。自分がありのままであること、自分の自信を持つことの大切さをパワフルに語ってく
れました。初めてとは思えない堂々とした発表でした。
２人目のスピーカーTM Oさんは、小学生の時のバレンタインの経験を具体的に語ってく
れました。小さな女の子が年上の男の子に特別な感情を持ったお話をジェスチャーなどを
交えながら語る技は引き込まれるのもがありました。トーストマスターズらしい締めくく
り方も面白かったです。
３人目のスピーカーはTM Iさん。お父様が傷ついた鳥に出会って人生が変わっていった話
を、トーストマスターズのメンターメンティーな話に見事に繋げていました。人は動物か
らでも年下の人からでも、いつでも学ぶことができるんだと感じさせられました。
最後のスピーカーはTM　Sさん。AIは敵か味方か、というタイトルのもと、これからのAI
との生活がどうなっていくのか、４名のパネリストと共にディスカッションを進めていき
ました。今の段階では、AIうまく使えば私たちの生活が助かっている、でも、これからAI
が発展していった時に、人間が必要なくなってしまうのか、それともうまく共存していく
のか、５年後１０年後にまた同じテーマでやってみたいものですね！
Next up are the prepared speeches. Our first speaker, TM M, delivered her very first
icebreaker speech since joining. She shared the music and experiences that have shaped
her life. She powerfully conveyed the importance of being true to oneself and having self-
confidence. It was a remarkably poised presentation for a first-timer.
Our second speaker, TM O, vividly recounted her Valentines Day experience from
elementary school. Her skillful storytelling, complete with gestures, drew us in as she
described a young girl developing special feelings for an older boy. The Toastmasters-style
conclusion was also quite interesting.
The third speaker was TM I. She masterfully connected the story of her father encountering
an injured bird and how it changed his life to the Toastmasters mentor-mentee relationship.
It made us feel that people can learn from animals, from younger people, anytime.
The final speaker was TM S. Under the title “Is AI Friend or Foe?”, she led a discussion
with four panelists about how our lives with AI will unfold. At this stage, AI is helping our
lives when used well. But as AI advances, will humans become unnecessary, or will we
coexist successfully? I’d love to revisit this same theme in five or ten years!

そして、総合論評はTM Tさん。落ち着いたスムーズな進行で進みました。そして論評する
メンバーも的確な内容でさすが！今日はどのセッションでも時間切れに人がでなかったこ
ともまた素晴らしいですね。タイムマネージメントはとても大切な要素です。総合司会の
Tさんの進行も素晴らしく、例会全体もスケジュール通りに進みました。
例会がとてもスムーズに進んだこと、とても嬉しいです。来週の日曜日はエリアコンテス
トがあり、私たちのクラブからも４名おコンテスタントが出場します。みんなで応援に行
って、盛り上げましょう！！ゲストの方も大歓迎ですので、楽しく一緒に過ごしませんか
？お待ちしています。

 

And the overall commentary was by TM T. The session proceeded smoothly and calmly.
The members providing commentary also delivered spot-on content—truly impressive! It
was also wonderful that no session ran over time today. Time management is a crucial
element. The overall moderation by T was excellent, and the entire meeting proceeded

according to schedule.

I’m very happy the meeting went so smoothly. Next Sunday is the Area Contest, and four
contestants from our club will be participating. Let’s all go cheer them on and get the crowd
going!! Guests are also very welcome, so why not join us for a fun time together? We look
forward to seeing you.

この日の司会者（Toastmaster of the Day）はTM Uでした。例会のテーマは「Luckey
Bug(Fukubukuro)」、新年一回目の会合にふさわしいトピックです。そして会場は波止場会
館の４F, 素晴らしい天気で窓から横浜の海と豪華客船を見ながらの会合となりました。

The Toastmaster of the Day was TM U. The meeting theme was “Luckey Bug
(Fukubukuro),” a fitting topic for the first meeting of the new year. The venue was the 4th
floor of the Harbor Hall. With splendid weather, we enjoyed the meeting while gazing out
the windows at Yokohama's sea and the luxury cruise ships.

テーブルトピックセッションの担当はTM Oでした。コンテストが近いために、コンテス
ト形式で行われました。すべての参加者に同じ題をだすのです。５名の参加者を指名して
、場外にでてもらった後に提示されたお題は「What is your favorite way to relax?」。比較
的に答えやすいお題です。

The Table Topics session was led by TM O. With the contest approaching, it was conducted
in a contest format. All participants were given the same topic. After five participants were
selected and asked to step outside, the topic presented was “What is your favorite way to
relax?” It was a relatively easy topic to answer.

１人づつ入場してお題が知らされます。ＴＭ　Ｏは読書、ＴＭ　Ｎは映画、ＴＭ　Ｔ　は草取り
、ＴＭ　Ｉはお風呂、とそれぞれ人柄を感じさせる発表です。結果的に優勝したＴＭ　Ｔは配
偶者が大病から戻ってきた日常への感謝をスピーチされました。

Each participant entered one by one and was given a topic. TM O's was reading, TM N's
was movies, TM T's was weeding, and TM I's was bathing—each announcement revealing
something about their character. Ultimately, the winner, TM T, gave a speech expressing
gratitude for the everyday life she shared with her spouse, who had recovered from a
serious illness.

つづいて準備スピーチ。ＴＭ　Ａはマンションの掃除をしていただいている方から感じた「
ありがとう」という言葉の大切さ。ＴＭ　Ｋは展示会出展で経験したリーダーと部下の期待
の違いとリーダーの柔軟性の大事さ。ＴＭ　Ｍは、コンビニの仕事で経験したコミュニケー
ションのむつかしさと気づきをあたえる重要さ。ＴＭ　Ｏは、カナダへの移住を前に経験し
たカナダにおける医療の現状と日本との比較。　を話されました。どの話も実際の深い経
験に基づくスピーチでした。

Next, prepared speeches. TM A spoke about the importance of the word “thank you,” felt
from the person cleaning their apartment. TM K spoke about the difference in expectations
between leaders and subordinates experienced while exhibiting at a trade show, and the
importance of a leader's flexibility. TM M discussed the difficulty of communication
experienced while working at a convenience store and the importance of providing
awareness. TM O shared about the current state of healthcare in Canada and its
comparison to Japan, experienced before moving to Canada. Each speech was based on
deep, real-life experiences.

新年早々の例会でしたが、出席者は30名近く、部屋の３人掛けの机が完全に埋まるほどで
した。新入会員の入会式もあり、またゲストが４名来ており、非常ににぎわった会合とな
りました。ＴＭ of the DAY のＴＭ　ＨおよびGeneral Evaluator TM Fの落ち着いた司会進行で

すばらしい新年第１回目の会合となりました。
Despite being the first meeting of the new year, nearly 30 members attended, completely
filling the room's three-person tables. With a new member induction ceremony and four
guests in attendance, it was a very lively gathering. Thanks to the calm and steady
leadership of TM H as TM of the Day and TM F as General Evaluator, it was a wonderful
first meeting of the new year.
