The first meeting of September was held at Hatoba Kaikan in Yamashita-cho, Yokohama, under cloudy skies, with four guests joining us.
At the beginning of the meeting, Club President TM HS welcomed TM TT back and congratulated him on participating in the semifinal round of the World Championship of Public Speaking in Vancouver, Canada, last month. The meeting began in a warm and celebratory atmosphere.
Next, we held an Induction Ceremony for three new members who officially joined our club today. A very warm welcome to all of our new members! We are delighted to have three of you with us.
If our membership continues to grow at this pace, we may need an even larger meeting room in the near future!!
After that, TM TS introduced the Word of the Day, “infinite,” and handed the meeting over to TM TT, our Toastmaster of the Day (TMOD).
The theme of today’s meeting was “Beyond the Finish Line.”
＜Table Topics＞
Our Table Topics Master, TM MT, prepared a game that was a little different from our usual Table Topics session.
Inspired by the Japanese proverb “If the wind blows, the barrel maker makes a profit,” the idea was to create a chain-reaction story in which seemingly unrelated events are connected one after another.
Here is how the game worked:
- The Table Topics Master gave only one question or challenge.
- The first challenger created a story based on the question.
- The next challenger continued the story, building on what the previous speaker had said.
- Finally, the Table Topics Master read the opening sentence and the final sentence together.
Who knows? We might even create the first-ever proverb of Yokohama Toastmasters Club!
The challenge was:
“If TM MT catches a cold…”
- TM YA
TM TT, a member of YTMC, visited TM MT at home to see how he was doing. As a result, TM TT caught a cold, too! - TM TU
Then, a large number of doctors rushed to TM TT’s house, and all the medicine in Japan suddenly disappeared! - TM KT
Fortunately, thanks to the doctors’ dedicated treatment and their infinite support, TM TT made a full recovery. - TM MT
Finally, everyone sang Queen’s famous song, “We Are the Champions,” together.
And they all lived happily ever after!
And with that, the game came to an end.
Although this was our first attempt at this kind of game, it created many hilarious moments, and the room was filled with laughter. It turned out to be a very fun and memorable Table Topics session.
Next, TM JI gave a speech related to our meeting theme, “Beyond the Finish Line.” He shared a story about injuring himself while jumping during basketball practice when he was a student, but continuing to work hard toward his next goal despite the setback.
＜Prepared Speeches＞
Three speakers then delivered speeches on a variety of interesting topics.
- “What Brought You to Canada?” — TM RK
TM RK was invited to Vancouver by his friend, TM TT, who had participated in the World Championship of Public Speaking.
When TM TT asked, “Why don’t you come to Vancouver?”, TM RK decided to go. He used his airline miles, which were about to expire, to purchase his ticket and paid for his own accommodation.
He also experienced an unexpected situation at the airport, where he was asked detailed questions about the purpose of his visit.
Despite the unexpected challenges, he made the journey all the way to Vancouver to support his friend. It was a heartwarming story of friendship and support.
- “Take a Walk Differently” — TM NS
TM NS usually enjoys walking while listening to English news every day.
One day, however, he decided to stop listening to the news while walking. As a result, he began to notice many things that he had never paid attention to before.
He saw puppies and children walking along the curb, discovered stingrays swimming in the river, and looked up to notice the moon in the sky.
His speech reminded us that even an activity we do every day can become a completely different experience when we change the way we do it.
It was a wonderful speech about discovering the world around us with fresh eyes.
- “Blue Cup” — TM HS
We tend to judge things based on our first impressions. However, when we look at something from different angles, something that initially seems cheap or ordinary may suddenly appear attractive and special.
During the speech, TM HS introduced a hit song by Japanese singer Kohmi Hirose and showed how the same person can look completely different in a skiing environment.
Then came the “Blue Cup.”
The conclusion was simple:
If we change the way we look at the Blue Cup, it can become a wonderful drink!
With plenty of humor, this entertaining speech reminded us of the importance of looking at things from different perspectives.
＜Evaluation Session＞
The Evaluation Session was led by TM HO.
In the individual evaluations, TM KY, TM KO, and TM MM each provided warm, thoughtful, and insightful feedback to the speakers.
Their comments will surely help the speakers continue to improve their future speeches.
Congratulations to today’s winners! TM KT won the Table Topics, and TM HS won the Prepared Speech! The meeting came to a close with Club President TM HS’s closing remarks.
Once again, it was a wonderful and rewarding meeting, filled with laughter, learning, and opportunities to speak. Almost everyone had a chance to participate and express themselves.

9月第1回目の例会は、曇り空の中、4名のゲストを迎えて、横浜・山下町の波止場会館で開催されました。
会長TM HSから、先月カナダ・バンクーバーで開催された世界スピーチコンテストの準決勝大会に出場したTM TTへ、「お帰りなさい！そして、おめでとうございます！」というメッセージが贈られ、祝福ムードの中で例会がスタートしました。
続いて、本日新たに入会した3名の入会式（Induction Ceremony）が行われました。新メンバーの皆さん、YTMCへ、ようこそ！心より歓迎いたします。
このペースでメンバーが増え続けると、近い将来、さらに大きな会場が必要になるかもしれません！！
その後、TM TSがWord of the Day「infinite」を紹介し、TMOD（Toastmaster of the Day）のTM TTへ進行が引き継がれました。
この日の例会テーマは、“Beyond the Finish Line” です。
＜テーブルトピックス＞
本日のテーブルトピックスマスター、TM MTは、いつものセッションとは少し趣向を変えたゲームを企画しました。
日本のことわざ「風が吹けば桶屋が儲かる」のように、直接的には関係のない出来事が次々とつながっていく、「連鎖反応型のストーリー」をみんなで作っていくというものです。
ゲームは、次のように進められました。
- テーブルトピックスマスターが、一つだけ質問またはチャレンジを出す。
- 最初のチャレンジャーが、その質問から続くストーリーを作る。
- 次のチャレンジャーが、前の人のストーリーを受けて、さらに続きを作る。
- 最後に、テーブルトピックスマスターが最初の文章と最後の文章を続けて読み上げる。
もしかすると、私たちは「横浜トーストマスターズクラブ初のことわざ」を作り上げることができるかもしれません！
今回のお題は、
「もし私（TM MT）が風邪を引いたら……」 でした。
- TM YA
YTMCのメンバー、TM TTがお見舞いにTM MTの自宅を訪れました。その結果、なんとTM TTも風邪を引いてしまいました。 - TM TU
すると、たくさんの医者がTM TTの自宅に押し寄せ、日本中の薬がなくなってしまいました。 - TM KT
しかし、医者たちの熱心な診療と「infinite」なサポートのおかげで、病気だったTM TTはすっかり元気になりました。 - TM MT
最後は、Queenの名曲 “We Are the Champions” をみんなで大合唱！
めでたし、めでたし！ゲームは無事終了しました。
初めての試みでしたが、途中で何度も大爆笑が起こり、とても楽しいテーブルトピックスセッションとなりました。
続いて、TM JI が、例会テーマ “Beyond the Finish Line” に関連して、学生時代にバスケットボールの練習中にジャンプをして怪我をしたものの、その後も次の目標に向かって頑張ることができたというエピソードを披露しました。
＜準備スピーチ＞
続いて、3名のスピーカーが、それぞれ個性あふれるテーマでスピーチを披露しました。
- “What brought you to Canada?” — TM RK
友人であり、トーストマスターズ世界大会に出場したTM TTから、「Why don’t you come to Vancouver?」と誘われたことをきっかけに、期限切れになりそうだったマイレージを使って航空券を購入し、宿泊費は自費でカナダへ向かったというTM RK。
空港で滞在理由などについて詳しく質問されるというハプニングも経験しながら、友人を応援するためにバンクーバーへ駆けつけたという、心温まるお話でした。
- “Take a Walk Differently” — TM NS
毎日、英語のニュースを聞きながらウォーキングを楽しんでいたTM NS。
ある日、ニュースを聞くのをやめて歩いてみると、これまで気づかなかったさまざまなものが目に入ってきました。
道の縁石の上を歩く子犬や子どもたち、川で泳ぐエイ、そして空に浮かぶ月……。
いつものウォーキングでも、少しやり方を変えるだけで、たくさんの新しい発見があることを教えてくれる、素敵なスピーチでした。
- “Blue Cup” — TM HS
私たちは誰でも、第一印象だけで物事を判断しがちです。しかし、さまざまな角度から見てみると、一見安っぽく見えるものが、実はとても魅力的に見えることがあります。
スピーチでは、廣瀬香美さんのヒット曲をTM HSが歌い、同じ人物でも、スキー場ではまったく別人のように見えるというユニークな例も披露されました。
そして最後に登場したのが「Blue Cup」。
結論は、「Blue Cup」も見方を変えれば、素晴らしいお酒に見える！
ユーモアたっぷりで、物事を違った角度から見ることの大切さを伝える、印象的なスピーチでした。
＜評論セッション＞
評論セッションはTM HOが進行しました。
個人評論では、TM KY、TM KO、TM MMが、それぞれのスピーカーに対して、温かく、そして示唆に富んだフィードバックを行いました。
スピーカーにとって、次のスピーチにつながる貴重なアドバイスとなったことでしょう。
本日のテーブルトピック受賞者はTM KT、準備スピーチ受賞者はTM HSでした！続いてゲストインタビュー、クラブからのお知らせ、会長TM HSの閉会宣言をもって例会は終了しました。
