It was in the middle of the rainy season and despite of a light rain periodically, we had so many participants, including 6 guests, almost likely flooding over from the room. This fact must be remarkable to note how much our regular meetings are lively. A new fiscal year (for 2026) has just started and today’s regular meeting was the first one, which was kicked off by this year’s president, TM HSA.
In the opening, a great news brought our attention that TM TTA has proceeded to the semifinal stage in the Toastmasters world speech contest, which is to be held in Canada this August. President also mentioned 30%+ of YTMC club members have achieved completing of Pathways level 1, which is a remarkable milestone and appreciated by Toastmasters International HQ. Then, having two new members onboard in today’s meeting, we held an induction ceremony for them, followed by introduce of Word-of-the-day ‘by TM KHI. He chose ‘earthy’. Then, Toastmaster-of-the-day TM HOH took over to conduct the meeting, Today’s meeting theme was ‘Rookie’ and respective role takers introduced their role along with their own rookie story.
In the Table Topic session, TM YOS delivered 6 topics, following and responding to today’s theme ‘rookie’:
1: What was your hardest experience when you were a rookie?
TM HAO shared her heartwarming parenting episode she encountered very recently.
2: What was your most surprising thing when you were a rookie?
TM NSA relied his busiest interaction days between the US and Japan because of the time lag.
3: What was your unforgettable mistake when you were a rookie?
TM MMO reminded herself importance of reporting to the manager when she was in difficulty in dealing with customers.
4: How did the rookie year change you?
TM KIS responded his experience at a restaurant.
5: What was your small success in your rookie year?
One guest shared his learning episode through communication with foreign colleagues in the US.
6: What is a true rookie?
TM YIS suggested, “Everyone should challenge anytime in their life to be a true rookie.”
In the prepared speech session, three out of four members delivered their very first speech:
1: ‘My weakest talent’ by TM JIN for his first speech referred to his back ground why he joined the club, using the point of view from his thought through his job assignment history.
2: ’Three addresses’ by TM TMA for her first speech referred to the origin of her given name, place to learn, and place to work.
3: ’To join or not to join’ by TM KSH for her first speech referred to her English learning history toward her decision to join the club.
4: ‘One compass wasn’t enough for my leadership’ by TM TUS referred ‘Inshallah’ (like ‘Que Será, Será’) when he worked with an African country and learned there were many ways to perform a leadership.
The evaluation session conducted by TM ATA, is not only for the prepared speakers but also for every participants a valuable opportunity to learn what a good speech is. Individual evaluator, TM HNI, TM TTA, TM NMI and TM TSA delivered warm and thoughtful evaluation to their speaker.
After having the award session and the guest interviews, and sharing some club notice, TM HSA closed the meeting successfully.
梅雨の真っただ中で、時折小雨が降るあいにくの天気にもかかわらず、今回はゲスト6名を含む大勢の参加者が集まり、会場からあふれそうなほどの盛況となりました。このことからも、YTMCの例会がいかに活気にあふれているかがうかがえます。
2026年度の新しい会計年度が始まり、この日の例会は新年度最初の例会となりました。新会長のTM HSAによる開会で、会はスタートしました。
冒頭では、TM TTAが今年8月にカナダで開催されるトーストマスターズ世界スピーチコンテストの準決勝大会へ進出したという素晴らしいニュースが紹介されました。また、会長からは、YTMC会員の30％以上がPathwaysレベル1を修了したことが報告され、これは大きな節目であり、Toastmasters International本部からも高く評価されているとの紹介がありました。
続いて、この日新たに入会した2名の新会員の入会式（インダクション・セレモニー）が行われました。その後、TM KHIがWord of the Day「earthy」を紹介し、TMOD（Toastmaster of the Day）のTM HOHへと進行が引き継がれました。
この日の例会テーマは 「Rookie（新人）」。各役割担当者は、自身の役割紹介に加え、新人時代のエピソードを交えながら自己紹介を行いました。

テーブルトピックスマスターのTM YOSは、この日のテーマ「Rookie」に沿って、次の6つの質問を出題しました。
1. 新人時代、一番大変だった経験は何ですか？
TM HAOは、ごく最近経験した心温まる子育てのエピソードを紹介しました。
2. 新人時代、一番驚いたことは何ですか？
TM NSAは、アメリカと日本の時差のために非常に忙しいやり取りが続いた日々について語りました。
3. 新人時代、忘れられない失敗は何ですか？
TM MMOは、顧客対応で困った際には上司へ報告することの大切さを学んだ経験を振り返りました。
4. 新人の一年はあなたをどのように変えましたか？
TM KISは、レストランでの経験について語りました。
5. 新人時代の小さな成功は何でしたか？
ゲストのお一人は、アメリカで外国人の同僚とのコミュニケーションを通じて学んだ経験を紹介しました。
6. 本当の「ルーキー」とはどんな人ですか？
TM YISは、「人生のどんな時でも新しいことに挑戦する人こそ、本当のルーキーだ」と締めくくりました。
準備スピーチ
4名のスピーカーのうち3名が、クラブでの初スピーチを披露しました。
1.「My Weakest Talent」— TM JIN（初スピーチ）
これまでの仕事での配属や経験を振り返りながら、自身がYTMCに入会した理由を語りました。
2.「Three Addresses」— TM TMA（初スピーチ）
自分の名前の由来、学びの場、そして職場という「3つの住所（Addresses）」をテーマに、自身の歩みを紹介しました。
3.「To Join or Not to Join」— TM KSH（初スピーチ）
英語学習の歩みと、クラブへの入会を決断するまでの経緯について語りました。
4.「One Compass Wasn’t Enough for My Leadership」— TM TUS
アフリカの国で働いた経験をもとに、「Inshallah」という考え方（フランス語の「Que Será, Será」に似た意味合いとして紹介）に触れながら、リーダーシップにはさまざまな形があることを学んだ経験を語りました。
論評セッション
論評セッションはTM ATAが進行しました。論評はスピーカーだけでなく、参加者全員にとって「良いスピーチとは何か」を学ぶ貴重な機会です。
個人論評では、TM HNI、TM TTA、TM NMI、TM TSAが、それぞれのスピーカーに対して温かく、示唆に富んだフィードバックを送りました。
最後に、各賞の表彰、ゲストインタビュー、クラブからのお知らせが行われ、新会長TM HSAの閉会宣言をもって、新年度最初の例会は成功裏に終了しました。
