-Venue: Hatoba kaikan
-Thema: “It is my turn”
-Report
The 589 YTMC regular meeting was held on February 7th(Saturday), 2015.
We had 17 YTMC members, 7 other TMC member and 1 pure guests.
So the number of participants was 25 who came together to enjoy “In-house international speech contest, one of the important annual event for our club.

As the contest chair, I was so happy to hold such a thrilled contest in which 6 contestants presented each four speeches in English and Japanese. For handling it, I was supported by many members of other clubs, as timers, counters and judges. I would like to show my appreciation for the support.
In total, we had eight speeches! All contestants brought laughter to all audiences a lot, even though they seriously competed. Therefore, the time had gone so quickly even if the meeting was thirty minutes longer than usual. Each two winners for English and Japanese speech contest will advance to the next stage, Area 42 contest, on March 1st .
For the day, the four representatives will polish their speeches by themselves as well as by fellow members. Such a process was not only tough but also fruitful.

Joint Meeting with Den-en Toshi Toastmasters Club / TMOD Meeting Report

Our Joint Meeting by Yokohama TMC and Den-en Toshi TMC has been successfully done on Dec 20th, which was a last meeting in 2014.
Although it was a heavy rainy day, many members gathered the venue and the meeting went very well and finish without any issue!
The meeting them was ‘2014!!’ During my preparation of joint meeting, I had asked all role takes about my question, which was ‘What was your special event or what was your happiest moment in 2014?’
Another theme was ‘Christmas’, so many members worn Christmas costume and some members were dressed in Red, Green or While. So, the atmosphere in the meeting room was really bright like Christmas!!

The meeting started on time by opening remarks from Yokohama TMC President, TM A.T.
At the begging of Table Topic Session, Santa Claus appeared!!! And….. he was TM Y.O of Den-en Toshi TMC. He really looked like a real Santa Claus he gave us a lot of fun during the Table Topic Session. Another Table Topicmaster was TM T.T and both of them gave us the questions related to a meeting them.

Today, we had 6 Prepared Speakers. From Yokohama TMC, TM M.O, TM T.S and TM H.A challenged to be a Speaker. I am sure that they were very nervous because the meeting room was very big and more than 30 members in the room. TM M.O did a great speech even it was her 2nd speech and she shown us many pictures of Ukraine using PC. TM T.S gave us a tips how to survive in our social field and explained his way with a philosophy. I enjoyed listening his real story and his experiences. The advanced speech by TM H.A was about the book written by Sheryl Sandberg. She not only explain the story which she read but also explained what she leaned from the book and how she felt. She did a wonderful job!!

Not only 3 speakers but also evaluators and all support role takes did great jobs during the meeting!! Without all helps by supporters, the meeting wouldn’t run well.
The award winner was below. Congratulations to all winners!!
1, The Best Table Topic Award went to TM T.F (guest from Tachikawa TMC!)
2, The Best Evaluator Award went to TM M.M. (Den-en Toshi TMC)
3, The Best Speaker Award went to TM M.O (Yokohama TMC)
And…today’s special award, the Best Dresser Award went to Me!!(TM K.T from Yokohama TMC)
The meeting ran smoothly according to the agenda and Den-en Toshi TMC President TM K.O made a closing remarks and our joint meeting finished on time!!

The key purpose of joint meeting with Den-en Toshi TM Club was to communicate with each other and learn each other the differentiation.
I hope that everyone enjoyed the meeting and learned something from Den-enToshi TMC members.
As a TMOD, I’d like to say thank you to all role takers and thank you for supporting me during the meeting.

Pleasant Experience

I found a great thing that Toastmaster of the Day is the best way to enjoy each member’s speech.

Since I took a forward seat in the room than other audience, I could savor each speech more deeply.

After accepting to be TMOD, I deeply regretted my “Yes”.
Being a poor PC user, it seemed difficult for me to write the agenda and send it to members. However TM S’ s great support, I could accomplish my role.
I enjoyed everything.

Today, there are 3 Speakers and 1st speaker was our new member TM M.O. She did a great job as Ice Breaker!! During her speech, she introduced the background of her life in China and Japan and her future vision etc.

We had a special Work Shop session by TM T.S. He made a presentation about how to resolve the conflict with using Power Point slides. The visual aid was very supported and easy to understand his message.

Today’s General Evaluator was our President TM A.T and at the beginning of GE Session, he informed us that the evaluation is the most important part of toastmaster’s activities. With evaluation, we can know what we need to improve, what is our given strength and characters.
3 evaluators (TM M.T, TM T.S, TM N.S) made wonderful evaluation for each speakers according to the manual.

image image imageIt was my first time to take a Contest Chair in TM activities.
I have been joining the contest as a contestant for 3 years. Then I focused on making my speech and enjoyed giving the speech to members.
However I had to manage YTMC In-house Contest at this time. My priority was to collect many contestants. And I needed to create the stage that contestants give each speech with a good feeling. I felt that I gave my speech comfortably because Contest Chair created the stage for me.
As a result there were 10 contestants in English and Japanese Contest!! I thought our In-house Contest in2014 was successful. But success couldn’t come without member’s cooperation! I really appreciated all members, and all contestants! Thank you very much!
Lastly I announce prize winners of our In-house contest in2014 at both contests!!

The 579th Meeting Report

Pocket

The YTMC #579 Meeting was held close to Nogeyama Park at the Seishonen Kouryu Centre. It was a hot day and summer was back with a last weekend of hot weather. To my delight and maybe because we had a huge venue reserved, almost 30 people were able to make it and enjoy my first TMOD session. However I believe they were really coming for the Speech Marathon and especially for TM Y’s presentation on the “Road to DTM”.

The schedule was tight so we omitted a theme for this meeting. The word of the day ultimate was used well throughout ultimately enhancing the atmosphere of the meeting. We managed to keep the time fairly well giving us the opportunity to hear 4 Table Topic Speakers give wonderful short speeches. This was followed by quickly moving into the Speech Sessions containing 6 Speeches with a wide variety of topics. First we were introduced to one of our recent new members via her Icebreaker Speech, then we moved to the beauty of Himeji Castle before taking a turn towards the Humorous side with speeches about Unusual Signboards, Primate Humor and great information about the Fall Speech Contest!

After a very brief intermission, it was our treat to have TM T.Y present his experiences/expertise on “The Road to DTM”. He broke us into workgroups and gave us questions to present later. Each group could quickly list down answers and present to the greater audience. TM T.Ythen elaborated on the answers given and gave a great overview on the baby steps required to reach the final goal of DTM. Thank you TM T.Yfor your presentation.

We wrapped up the meeting with a quick Evaluation Session and our President/VPE reminded everyone of the upcoming Fall In-House Humorous Speech Contest. It was a great first experience as a TMOD and I look forward to doing it again, this time with a theme!
Thank you!

TM M.F
