2017年度 ディビジョン E ほら話コンテスト / 2017 Division E Tall Tales Contest

去る2017年10月9日、川崎市生涯学習プラザにて、2017年度Division E ほら話コンテストが開催されました。150名を超える観衆が見守る中、各エリアから選出された優勝者たちが、丹精込めて磨き上げたほら話を披露しました。横浜TMCが所属するエリア54からは、日本語コンテストに関内TMCのTM Sが、英語コンテストには横浜TMCのTM Fが出場しました。



まず初めに日本語コンテストが行われ、7名のコンテスタントが競い合いました。母語である日本語を巧みに操りながら、まるで役者のように表情や動きを変えるコンテスタントの芸達者ぶり、そしてその話の面白さに圧倒されました。会場が笑いの渦に包まれたのは言うまでもありません。スピーチ後のインタビューセッションでは、それぞれのコンテスタントがリラックスした様子でスピーチの裏話を披露しました。




審査の結果、1位が夢のスーパー冷蔵庫のほら話を巧みに語ったTM M、2位はエリア54代表で、「男の楽園」の物語を赤裸々に語ったTM S、そして3位が小人になって女風呂に潜入する話を作り上げたTM Mでした。コンテスタント達の想像力には脱帽します。



続いて英語コンテストが行われました。披露されたスピーチは日本語部門に負けず劣らず工夫を凝らした素晴らしいものばかりで、よくもこんな話を次から次へと思いつくものだと感心しました。中でも美しい英語を操りながら優雅な動作で観客を魅了しつつ笑わせたTM Kが1位に、日本に来てありとあらゆるコミックキャラクターに遭遇しながらアドベンチャーを楽しむほら話を展開したネイティブスピーカーのTM Mが2位に選ばれました。





そしてスーパーペットロボット・ボブの売り込みで会場を爆笑の渦に巻き込んだ横浜TMC代表のTM Fが見事3位に選ばれました!
おめでとうございます!



コンテスト終了後の率直な感想は、まだ全国大会に進む前のDivision大会だというのに、スピーカーのレベルが高い、ということです。この厳しい競争を勝ち抜いて全国大会に進むのは並大抵ではありません。特にほら話はゼロから想像力を膨らませてストーリーを作り上げ、観客を楽しませなくてはならないのですから大変です。でもその努力の結果を見て楽しませてもらえる観客はラッキーです。私も存分に楽しませて頂きました。

見事トロフィーを勝ち取り、全国大会に進まれる優勝者のみなさん、Division E代表としてどうか全国大会でも頑張ってください。期待しています!
そしてDivision Eコンテストを成功裡に主催・運営された関内クラブ、ビジョナリーズクラブ、その他運営委員のみなさま、素晴らしいコンテストをどうもありがとうございました。

On October 9th, 2017, Division E Tall Tales Contest in 2017 was held at the Shogai-gakushu Plaza in Kawasaki City. The winners of each Area performed the tall tales they’d created and brushed up for this day in front of more than 150 people who fully packed the hall. From Area 54 which Yokohama TMC belongs to, TM S of Kannai TMC participated in the Japanese Contest, and TM F of Yokohama TMC competed in the English Contest.

First, the seven contestants competed in the Japanese Contest. Their agility in manipulating their mother tongue Japanese was quite amazing, and I was totally impressed by their virtuosity in sophisticated movements and ever-changing facial expressions. Their performance threw the house into convulsions of laughter. In the interview session after the contest, each contestant, now relaxed, revealed the curious stories about how their hilarious tall tales were made.

As a result, TM M, who made up a story about a super refrigerator, won the first prize. The second prize went to TM S, a representative of Area 54 who vividly described the “Men’s Paradise” in his humorous way. The third prize was given to TM M, who comprised a wild tale in which he turned into a micro-human and sneaked into a female public bath. Their creativity took my breath away, whew.

The English Contest followed the Japanese Contest. All speeches were as wonderful and amazing as Japanese speeches, and I was truly impressed by their creativity. How could they possibly create such incredulous tales?

In the English Contest, TM K, who entertained and bewitched the audience by her sophisticated English and elegant movements, won the first prize and TM M, the only native speaker of all contestants, won the second prize. She talked about the adventure in Japan in which she met many comic characters on the way.

And guess what? TM F from our Yokohama TMC won the third prize! He made the audience laugh out loud by his non-stop and hyper sales talk of a futuristic pet robot BOB. Congratulations TM F!







The honest impression I had in this contest was that even at the Division level speakers’ skills were amazingly high. It would be quite hard to win the fierce competition like this and proceed to the District Contest. Especially, making tall tales would be tough since tall tales had to be created from a scratch to something incredulously humorous to entertain the audience. However, we, as an audience, are lucky to be able to see and laugh at the fruit of their efforts and be made happy. I enjoyed it thoroughly, too.

The winners of Division E Contest, congratulations! We are looking forward to seeing your fabulous performances once again at the District Contest.

Last but not least, I’d like to thank the hosting clubs, Kannai Toastmasters Club and Visionaries Toastmasters Club, and the people in the contest management committee, for their hard work and dedication to make this contest a success. Thank you very much!

2017年度 エリア54 ほら話コンテスト / 2017 Area 54 Tall Tales Contest

2017年9月17日、「エリア54ほら話コンテスト」が行われました。
エリア54は、関内TMC、みなとみらいTMC、横浜オーシャンTMC、そして横浜TMCの4つのクラブから構成されており、各クラブのクラブ内コンテストで入賞した代表者たちが、エリアコンテストに挑みました。
今回、横浜クラブがホストクラブとして、主にコンテスト運営を行いました。そして私（TM K.T）は、コンテスト委員長初挑戦でしたが、多くの方々に支えられ当日を迎えることが出来ました。

今回、英語コンテストでは4名、日本語コンテストでは5名がコンテスタントとして出場。
出場者の方々は「3分30秒～5分30秒以内」という制限時間の中で、バラエティーに富んだ「ほら話」を披露してくださいました。
ほら話の内容はさまざまで、「株、新製品、引っ越し、テクノロジー、床屋」など、みなさん身近な様々なアイデアを使って、ストーリーを作り上げていました。


コンテスト中は、常に笑いが絶えず、聴衆の方々を大いに楽しませ、会場は大盛り上がりとなりました！
非日常的な「ほら話」ではありましたが、実際にあったらすごい！？と思ってしまうような内容だったり、ほら話と分かっていながらも、「うんうん、そうだね」と妙に納得しながら大笑いしてしまうこともありました。
私自身、委員長としてコンテスタントの舞台袖でスピーチを聞きながらも、たくさん笑わせていただきました。

全出場者のスピーチ終了後、横浜クラブのAさんがインタビューアーとしてインタビューセッションを盛り上げてくださいました。Ａさんは各出場者に、ユニークで面白い質問を投げかけられ、スピーチ作成の裏話や秘訣など、聴衆に役立つ回答も聞くことが出来ました。

そしてコンテストの結果は、、、、
＜英語コンテスト＞　 1位 Fさん、　　2位　Aさん、
＜日本語コンテスト＞1位Sさん、　　2位 Hさん、　　3位　Sさん、、

私たちのクラブからは、英語コンテストでFさんが1位、同じ英語コンテストで、Ａさんが2位に、
さらに日本語コンテストで、Hさんが2位に輝きました！おめでとうございます♪
そして、英語コンテストで1位に輝いたＦさんは、10月9日に行われる次レベルのコンテスト(ディビジョンEコンテスト)へ進まれます！

今回、コンテストの準備の時間が十分に取れませんでしたが、大成功を収めることができました。
また、台風の影響で雨模様の中、コンテスタントの方々も運営に携わった方々も、誰一人欠席することなく、
また多くのメンバー、そしてゲストの方々が参加されました。

審査委員長のＳさん、インタビューアーのAさん、コンテストをサポートしてくださったすべての皆さん、オーディエンスとして会場を盛り上げてくださった皆さん、そして素晴らしいコンテスタントの皆様に感謝を申し上げます。
ありがとうございました！！

On Sep 17th, 2017, we held the Area 54 Tall Tales Contest.
Our Area 54 has four clubs, which are Kannai TMC, Minato-mirai TMC, Yokohama Ocean TMC and Yokohama TMC, and the contestants who won their club in-house contests participated in this Area 54 contest.
This time, our Yokohama TMC has facilitated the contest as a host club and I myself took a role of the contest chair for the first time. It was my big pleasure serving as a contest chair.

Four contestants in English and Five in Japanese challenged the contest.
Contestants presented their variety of Tall Tales Speeches within the limited time.
Every speech was unique, with a twist and entertainment!
Their speeches were extraordinarily hilarious and full of originality, which entertained us and made us laugh a lot.
I myself enjoyed their speeches very much and learned so many things from them.
Another pleasure of the contest was the interview session!
The special interview given by TM.A was like a mini-Workshop of Tall Tales contest.
During the interview session, contestants performed freely with relaxed faces.

Finally, the Contest Result was….
1st TM F, 2nd TM A,
1st TM S, 2nd TM H, 3rd TM S,

From our Yokohama TMC, TM F got a 1st prize and TM A got a 2nd prize in English contest.
Also, TM H received a 2nd prize in Japanese contest. Congratulations!!
The 1st prize winner, TM F, will advance to the Division E Contest to be held on October 9th.

Thank you everyone for participating in the Area 54 Tall Tales contest despite the bad weather. The contest was successfully finished thanks to you, to your big effort and big support to make the contest enjoyable, valuable and successful!!

第651回例会レポート“What’s up?” #651 TMOD Meeting Report

大型台風18号が刻一刻と近づき足元の悪い中、8人のゲストを含め、会場は満席。最近すごい勢いでメンバーが増えていて嬉しいです。一方、全員と話す機会が減っている寂しさもあるため、お互いをもっと理解したいと思い、テーマは”What’s up ?”にしました。フランスへの引越し準備中、ジョギングをはじめた等のお話を聞くことができました。

事前準備スピーチは4本でCC#1(初めて)が1本(デビューおめでとう)、CC#10(CCマニュアル最終)が2本(終了おめでとう)、アドバンストが1本でした。いずれも、トーストクラブメンバーらしく、一言で言えば、困難に打ち勝って成功を手にしたという、オーディエンスを前向きにする良いスピーチでした。

明日はTall Talesのエリアコンテストです。このため、インハウスで勝ち上がった2名の練習も実施しました。
小道具、内容共に更に磨きがかかっていて大いに笑わせていただきました。
時間オーバーに気をつけてくださいね。

Despite the huge typhoon approaching the Kanto area, we had a full-house meeting with eight guests.
Recently, the number of club members has been increasing step by step, thanks to the officers’efforts and the warm atmosphere members create for the guests.
Having more members is super wonderful, but we don’t have enough time to talk with all members, which makes me sad.
I’d be happier if members understood each other more, so I picked up “what’s up ?” as a theme of the meeting.
From the information they gave me, I was able to know what some members had been up to.
TM G had been busy preparing for the move to France, TM H had started jogging with TM F and so forth.

We had four prepared speeches, which included one CC#1 (first speech)…Congratulations on your first speech!,
two CC#10 (final speech of CC manual) speeches…Congratulations on finishing the basic manual! and one speech from the Advanced manual.
All speeches sounded like typical Toastmasters speech, which means positive in a nutshell. In their speeches, they talked about how they’d overcome difficulties and become winners.
They made the audience feel positive. Thanks for the great speeches.

Since we’d have “Tall Tales Area Contest” next day, two in-house contest winners had a rehearsal in front of us.
They made us laugh a lot by further-improved props and storylines.
Watch out the time and try to be qualified at the contest.

2017年度ほら話コンテスト、YTMCクラブコンテスト　YTMC Club Contest

トーストマスターズでは毎年春季と秋季にコンテストが実施され、それぞれの方がクラブ活動の成果を試す機会となっています。
秋季大会はいくつかのテーマが順番に開催されますが、今回は「ほら話」がテーマでした。

大げさな作り話という一見難しそうなテーマでコンテスタントが集まるのだろうかと思いましたが、
そんな心配はどこ吹く風で英語スピーチに5名、日本語に3名の延べ8名の方々が挑戦されました。

コーヒー好きが高じて自宅にコーヒーショップを作る人、
テレビショッピングやセミナーで怪しい商品や株を売る人、

ロボットの彼女を紹介する人など、日常生活から開放されたような楽しいスピーチを聞くことができ、
30名を超える聴衆の皆さんの笑いが絶えない2時間となりました。

スピーチが終わったあとのインタビューセッションや表彰式で、
コンテスタントがお互いの健闘を称え合っている姿が印象的でした。
クラブの次はエリアコンテストがあり、YTMCからは英語はFさんとHさん、
日本語はNさん、Hさんが出場されます。

エリアコンテストは9月17日（日曜日）に桜木町駅前のぴおシティ6階、
青少年交流・活動支援スペース第一研修室で行われます。
ぜひ応援に行きましょう！

最後に、コンテスタントの皆様、聴衆の皆様、審査委員長Gさん、VPE Sさんをはじめ
有形、無形のサポートを引き受けてくださった皆様、本当にありがとうございました。

Toastmasters Speech Contests are held twice a year, once in fall and once in spring.
These are the events for contestants where they can show how hard they’ve been trying to improve their skills in the club.
The theme of the fall contest changes in rotation, this year’s theme was the“Tall Tales”.

I thought it would be tough to secure the number of contestants for the in-house contest since contestants had to create highly exaggerated and improbable stories,
but it turned out five contestants in English and three in Japanese challenged the contest.

All the audience enjoyed 2-hour in-house contest by listening to the fantastic stories that were far away from reality such as
rebuilding the house inside a coffee shop, infomercial of funny goods, presentation of sketchy shares at a seminar, introducing robotic girlfriend, etc.
More than 30 people kept laughing out loud throughout the contest.
What impressed me most was that each contestant applauded each other for their wonderful speeches and efforts.

The award winners (TM F and TM H for English, TM N and TM H for Japanese) will advance to the Area contest to be held at Pio city – Sakuragi-cho Station on September 17th.
Let’s mark the calendar and go to cheer on our representatives.

Finally, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to all the contestants, audience and those who provided very strong support for me, especially to TM G, a chief judge, and TM S, the VPE.

第649回例会レポート“Fireworks” #649 TMOD Meeting Report

2017年8月19日に行われた第649回例会では、好きな花火をテーマにしました。
ほとんどのメンバーは、日本の文化が感じられる線香花火が好きなようでした。

テーブルトピックでは、旅の経験や思い出について、楽しいお話が聞けました！


続いてのスピーチセッションでは、デジタル化による脳への影響、結婚32周年の奥様との幸せ、
クリティカルパスメソッドの紹介、そしてアドバンストスピーカーによる自動車教習所の面白い話を聞くことができました。


どのスピーカーの方も、魅力的なスピーチをしていたのが印象的でした。
Evaluation sessionでは、Evaluetorの方々のアドバイスがとても有意義でした。


GEのYさん、スムーズな進行をありがとうございました！

さて、そろそろ9月になりますが、まだまだ暑さに気をつけてお過ごしください。

The #649 meeting theme was fireworks because a lot of fireworks festivals are held in August.
It seemed that most members liked sparklers (senkou-hanabi)that can make people feel Japanese culture.
In the Table Topic Session, we enjoyed listening to the speakers’ answers to the questions which were about experiences, memories, happenings and so forth on their journey.
Subsequent to the Table Topic Session, I was able to listen to the stories of how digitization affects human brain,
the happiness with a wife on their 32nd marriage anniversary, the introduction to the Critical Path Method, and a funny story about a driving school rendered by an advanced speaker.

All speakers delivered attractive speeches which impressed me a lot.
In the Evaluation Session, pieces of advice made by evaluators were so beneficial.
TM Y, the General Evaluator, thank you for handling the session smoothly!
Lastly, September is coming soon but days are still hot. Fellow members, take care of yourself.

第647回例会レポート“Spice” #647 TMOD Meeting Report

第647回の例会は、7月15日、波止場会館にて開催されました。
例会のテーマは「スパイス」。
メンバーからは、好きな調味料やスパイスについて挙げていただきました。
一番人気はやはり醤油！岩塩、善光寺七味、砂糖、チリ、豆板醤、
はちみつ、生姜、山椒、ゆずポン酢、ミントなど、
みなさんの食の好みがわかり、とても楽しいひと時になりました。

今回の例会の最大の見所は、T.Sさんによるワークショップでした。
トーストマスターズではこの秋、ほら話コンテストが全国で開催されます。
そのほら話コンテスト全国大会にて以前３位を受賞されたことのあるT.Sさんから、
ほら話スピーチ作成のヒントを共有していただきました。

またそのほかにも、食にまつわるテーブルトピックスピーチ（即興スピーチ）や、
４種類の準備スピーチ（自己紹介スピーチ、ダイビング、卵かけごはん、Googleによる月面探検プロジェクト）
など、多岐にわたるスピーチを楽しみました。
メンバーの皆さん、そしてゲストにいらしてくださった皆さま、ご協力ありがとうございました！

The 647th regular meeting of Yokohama Toastmasters Club was held on July 15th at Hatoba Kaikan.
The meeting theme was “Spice”, therefore I asked all role takers, “What is your favorite spice or seasoning?”
Soy sauce, rock salt, Shichimi chilli sold at Zenkoji, sugar, doubanjiang, honey, ginger, Japanese pepper,
yuzu ponzu, mint…their answers made the meeting so much fun and enjoyable!

The highlight of this meeting was the workshop presented by TM.S!
She was the third place winner of District76 Tall Tale contest before.
She shared with us many tips to make a Tall Take speech.
District76(Japan Area) will hold a Tall Tale contest this fall, so her workshop will work well for us!

We also enjoyed Table Topic (imprompt speech) and prepared speeches.
There were four prepared speeches in variety. Their topics were about ice breaking, diving,
TKG(Tamago Kake Gohan),and lunar exploration.
